8. Who Will Run The Frog Hospital?, Lorrie Moore
Maybe I'm just reading this book at the wrong time in my life. Though beautiful and impeccably written, it failed to connect with me in a meaningful way. Perhaps if it was just 100 pages longer I'd feel differently

6. Feast Your Eyes, Myla Goldberg
Sadly I can't(/don't want to) whittle down my thoughts to fit into a tweet (or whatever you call them on bluesky) so attached is my Fable review. In short: an absolutely beautiful read that will stay with me for a long time.

An unfinished drawing of my original character Balias. He is laying on a field of flowers, crying. Grieving about his friends, about his fall. The fallen knight is remorseful. As the color blue surrounds him. Wearing broken armor picturing his failures

DNF: Hidden Pictures, Jason Rekulak
Suggested to me after finishing Strange Houses - I really don't get why this was rated so highly. Boring prose, unlikable (in the bad way) characters, filled with conservative dogwhistles - got sick of it before the 50% mark.

βͺ5. Motherthing, Ainslie Hogarthβ¬
βͺThis was fun! Addictive, loving, disgusting, domestically terrifying - it's got it all. Even with its wit, the book does a fantastic job of depicting the manifestation and devastation of grief. I will pass on the chicken Γ la king. β¬

4. The Grownup, Gillian Flynn
Gone Girl might be one of my favourite movies, but Flynn's style really does suit short fiction best. The constantly snarky tone is fun for sixty pages, but starts to grate on sixty one.

3. I'm Thinking of Ending Things, Iain Reid
The kind of book you have to read twice. Unsettling, but perhaps not quite as scary as I was expecting. Still, the last 30 or so pages are a masterwork of set up and execution that blew me away.
What are you waiting for?

2. Ballad of Sword and Wine vol. 2, Tang Jiu Qing
An amazing followup to the first volume which I was initially lukewarm on. The court politics are captivating- seeing how much the second volume already builds upon the setup of the first makes me very excited for the rest of the series!

1. Strange Houses, Uketsu
Fun, if a bit contrived. The gripping first half *almost* makes up for the flat ending. I'm interested in checking out Uketsu's other Strange XYZ books as his style and diagrams are enjoyable to explore.
