Year One is informed by DKR, it was made after it--it's informed by what Miller learned he wanted to do with batman while working on DKR
DKR is as much a starting point for comics as Absolute or New 52-they advertised it in Playboy Magazine, it was intended to generate new readers. Now people act like it's a text that requires decoding, but dont maintain that rigidity for texts that DKR would "decode"
I see what you're saying but regardless of reading lists much of modern batman exists in the canon of influence of Miller. They construct, "de" or "re", in response to his work. Not to say you can't start with new 52 or absolute-but ppl are far less adamant about reading a base before starting those
in iraqi day
in afghan night
no child shall escape my sight
let those who are not rich or white
beware my power
lantern drone strike
#NeverWrongJustEarly
Is this not as contradictory as pointing new readers to the "subversive" work?
Sure but lots of readlists will point new readers to work created after DKR or Watchmen, even when the work is good, like New52 Batman, Snyder & Capullo are both influenced by Miller, Capullo worked with Moore-new 52 batman exists in the shadow of those books, but is oft recommended as a starter
"Heritage not Hate" is lowkey true for Jonah hex, my family has been reading that glub shitto for generations
Please God, it would be really really funny if Rodriguez & Camp are on Jonah Hex
Dont understood the whole "Watchmen/TDKR can't be someone's 1st comics" argument.
No one tells you to watch 209 bad mob movies before watching Goodfellas.
Feels like a complaint only hard in the paint capeshit fans proffer because they have no concept of an artistic cannon
Miller nototioursly radically changed the scripts for Hard Boiled and Elektra assassin, because the material sienkiewicz and Darrow provided him were so distinct from his initial scripts. If robinson wasnt able to do this for Sale, that's laziness or lack of skill.
Okay but Sale's a good artist and storyteller and robinson has never been more than a mid merchant, so this sounds like the often seen "good art-bad writing" combo--
Genuinely provide me with examples of comics that have "bad art/good story" and explain to me how poor storytelling as a result of the bad art does not impact the story itself
Shes in love with who i am,
I saw a werewolf with a chinese menu in his hand
This lady applied a suction like force to my winkie--im hoping she'll do it again

I could post like you after i t read 3 tweets
I did it because that post spoke to me--as a w*gg*r & venom stan--but i still did it
I saw cole's tweet abt how "venom is a movie about turning yourself into a w*gg*r to stop yourself from becoming a bug man" analyzed their phrasing--and for the last 3 years have been joking that they steal posts from me when i just predict how they would make specific conclusions
Cute girl from the future yelling "Let's Boomba!"
An ad from the future that reads: "I'm your friendly troll, here to tell you about:". A little troll character in a graduation cap holding a scroll is also holding a card that says "FREEBASE". Under the card it says: "FAST RADIATION ENHANCED BRAIN-ALTERATION SERVICES! What would YOU say if by simple doses of radiation, you could become a better person?".
A clearly dead man's head is completely missing the top, blood splatters are leaking out. Above him are a set of keys from a piano. Below him it says: "The only drawback: you have to take the person's brain out and put it in a centrifuge."
A close up of Shatter's face, text next to his cheek says: "--fifteen people with a machine gun. Jesus."
Panels I like from Shatter by Michael Saenz and Peter Gillis (the first comic made on a computer)
Stephen A Smith Voice: how are you bisexual AND a size queen? Your partner can have NO PENIS, but not a small one?
It's so cold that on the way to work this morning i saw a Dr. Robbie fan spooning with a Dr. Mohan fan for warmth
