Got some good news about fossil fuels

Here we may reign secure; and,
in my choice,
To reign is worth ambition,
though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell than
serve in Heaven.
But wherefore let we then our
faithful friends,
Th' associates and co-partners
of our loss,

I, 261-265

It's honestly blackpilled me a little how the last couple of years have revealed that so many people are just fundamentally averse to reading and writing and thinking as worthwhile human activities.

My experience with the DOE Climate Working Group report is that their analysis is based on cherry picking, misrepresentation, omitting contrary data, and every other scientific felony you can name.

This video by Prof. David Romps shows exactly how the "bad science" sausage is made.

I love the "could this be a solution" post because it's a perfect example of Founder brain. You have to be a special kind of stupid to imagine that you are the first person to come up with the idea of driving around the Strait of Hormuz. It's being so dumb that you think everyone else is even dumber

β€œIt’s all about gender” seems so reductive, but it is really all about gender.

I think we’ve already found out. A society with a healthy moral fiber would shun Donald Trump, not let him become its leader once, let alone twice. And a military will never be more moral than the people it draws from and nominally serves.

Renewable energy discourses of fossil fuel companies: obstruction and delay of climate action - Energy, Sustainability and Society Background For decades, multinational fossil fuel companies have strategically promoted discourses to obstruct climate action. Initially, the fossil fuel industry publicized communications that denied...

Our new research reveals how the world’s largest fossil fuel companies undermine renewables in their corporate communication.

Powerful corporations reinforce negative misleading narratives to reinforce fossil fuel dependence and slow down shift to renewables.

Across the Atlantic, high oil and gas prices are screwing up the politics of Europe’s climate policy, which will in turn screw up climate politics almost everywhere else.

Anyway, I cannot imagine a more toxic soup than a culture of white patriarchical dominance, unregulated gambling, legitimatizing prediction markets, historic economic inequality, and climate anxiety. Truly.

Reaching net zero by 2050 is often framed as a cost burden.

The UK Climate Change Committee’s latest analysis suggests the opposite.

The real risk is fossil fuel dependency.

Consider the Rattle In a state that still hosts grisly β€œrattlesnake roundups,” human Texans should learn to see something of themselves in their ancient, slithering kin.

"The simple fact of the rattlesnake’s venom forces us to pause or accept the consequences. It is an assertion of spaceβ€”of a right to beβ€”that many of us cannot seem to make peace with..."

Wars are extremely hard things to justify. It is intrinsic to what they are that they tend to death, destruction, and misery. Given this and some knowledge of history, one's default attitude towards powerful people purporting to do the world some great benefit by war should be extreme scepticism.

Top tech companies sign Trump's pledge to provide their own power for AI data centers The pledge signed by Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, xAI, Oracle and OpenAI does not include requirements for how companies will source the energy.

I talked with the @latimes.com @hayleysmith.bsky.social about the Administration promising to lower electricity bills while also blocking new sources of clean energy supply. When demand is spiking because of AI and the government is blocking supplies, prices go up. www.latimes.com/environment/...

Time series plot depicting predicted Nino 3.4 region ocean temperature anomalies from the latest (Mar 2026) ECMWF ensemble. It depicts an extremely rapid rise in such temperatures, from modest negative anomalies to strong positive anomalies, by mid-summer 2026--indicative of a transition from weak-moderate La Nina conditions to moderate-strong El Nino conditions over just a few months.

Whew.

All signs are increasingly pointing to a significant, if not strong to very strong, El NiΓ±o event. I'll have more to say in coming weeks & months, but for now I'll just say that this is increasingly likely to become a major regional-to-global climate driver in 2026-2027.
