The French word ‘aujourd’hui’ (today) consists of ‘au’ (on the), ‘jour’ (day), ‘de’ (of) and ‘hui’ (today). It was formed during the late Middle Ages.
However, many Romance words come from even older combinations. Some are hardly identifiable as such anymore.

It was on the lv diagram. I recall we used a 3-arm model to find out the l and Rg position of each arm. Then we used the Galactic rotation curve to predict where the arm would be in the lv diagram. It was fun to do, but these model arms turned out very weird on the lv diagram.
I did an exercise like this when I attended a class on Galactic Structure in 1995. The professor asked us to use a model for the spiral arms and for the Milky Way rotation curve in order to trace where the arms would be in the HI velocity diagram. I remember I did not find the result much clear.

As far as I can tell, the first "race track" schematic model of the Milky Way appeared in a Soviet paper in 1964. Here's an English translation done in 1965: ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1965SvA....
