NEW from @datadesk.bsky.social: The EU is increasingly reliant on US companies, like Venture Global, to source its natural gas.
But questionable business practices + close Trump ties raise doubts about whether Venture Global is a reliable partner as Europe seeks energy security. bit.ly/3METakW
The NYTimes just reported that the Trump admin may use the US Import Export Bank to subsidize Big Oil's operations in Venezuela.
The fossil fuel industry already gets $35B in gov't handouts every year. Congress must stand up any attempt to further enrich Big Oil with public $. nyti.ms/4pBUa6T
Who stands to profit, and who stands to pay, from Trumpβs play for Venezuelaβs oil?
β¬οΈProfit: Big Oil + major investors
β¬οΈPay: The people of Venezuela, US taxpayers + our climate

Graphic reading, "Fossil fuels don't just drive climate change - they harm our health at every stage of life and every system of the body."
Fossil fuels are bad for our climate and our health. A new report from @psr.org shows how coal, oil & gas harm every system of the body at every stage of our lives. Learn more: psr.org/fuelingsickness.

NEW π¨Since the Paris Agreement, 4 Global North countries - the US, Canada, Australia & Norway - blocked global progress on oil and gas phaseout.
While the rest of the world reduced oil & gas production by 2%, these 4 countries increased production by nearly 40%. oilchange.org/publications...

βThis two-tiered approach...won't lower electricity costs," said Ted Kelly, of the Environmental Defense Fund. βIt just saddles families and businesses with higher bills and more asthma-causing pollution.β
For the Trump admin, fossil fuel profits always matter more than the people.
Activists have been blocking the liquified gas port in Zeebrugge for 24 hours now, protesting the EU's imports of Russian gas, demanding that these aren't replaced with gas from the US
Getting the EU off fossil fuels is essential not only for the climate crisis, but for peace too

With our government shutdown because of Trump + the GOP's refusal to fund healthcare subsidies, it's important to remember that those same people have already expanded subsidies that help make fossil fuel CEOs richer.
As Trump + the GOP shut down the gov't to avoid funding healthcare for working families, a reminder of what they ARE willing to fund:
πΈ$35B in annual handouts to fossil fuel companies
πΈ$625M in new giveaways to coal

Trumpβs speech at the UN General Assembly today was a brutally clear example of the connection between white nationalism, climate denialism, + fossil fuel expansion.
He pits people against those who may seem βdifferentβ to distract us from who profits from our devastation.
π¨π¨π¨ Our *new research* finds that the U.S. federal government gives the fossil fuel industry a whopping $35 BILLION of handouts every single year, even as working families struggle with the rising cost of housing, groceries, and utilities.

"It is clear from this that pledges and industry self-regulation are failing to clean up the gas supply chain."
this is a good and interesting analysis. The IEA has said *for years* that the o&g industry is making progress on reducing methane; that methane reductions would pay for themselves (more gas to sell); and that its low hanging fruit.
Very little evidence of progress. And industry continues to expand
A graph showing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector rising in lockstep with production of these fossil fuels. That suggests the industry is failing to take steps to reduce methane emissions along its supply chain.
Since 2017, the Int'l Energy Agency has told the world the fossil fuel industry can reduce its emissions of toxic, planet-warming methane at little to no cost to itself. But industry keeps failing to clean up its act. Methane emissions are still rising in lockstep with production. bit.ly/47YXaVt
