Good to be interviewed about plans to setup nuclear power reactors on the Moon by the US and China and Russia, and why we need int’l cooperation rather than launching global rivalries and inequalities off-Earth: www.news.com.au/technology/s... @anuregnet.bsky.social @acsg.bsky.social
Vinicius shares his journey from Brazil to Australia & how most cyberattacks on space assets happen below the threshold of armed conflict. This makes such threats harder to detect, harder to regulate. With the sophistication of cuber ops, we talk
why Australia needs a national space-cyber policy
“Cyber attacks are very cost-efficient.” - Vinicius Guedes G. de Oliveira, PhD candidate @flindersuniversity.bsky.social. Hosted by @cassandrasteer.bsky.social, we unpack the cybersecurity risks facing critical space infrastructure.
In our Season Two opener, space law experts Dr Stacey Henderson & Dr Joel Lisk explain the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act and why it matters to Australia’s space sector. We talk satellites, sovereignty & legal careers in space.
New season, new voices! Season Two of the ACSG Podcast. We're kicking off with a special mini-series featuring authors from our 2024 workshop.
🎙️ Ep 1: Dr @staceyhenderson.bsky.social & Dr Joel Lisk on why space infrastructure is critical infrastructure.

With a new government term in 2025, Minister Tim Ayres may revisit previous decisions on space projects. The space sector must effectively communicate the importance of satellites for our national well-being and security. It's time to advocate how space supports "Future Made in Australia."
In 2023, Australia scrapped a billion-dollar project for Earth-observation satellites, and in 2024, a $7 billion military-grade satellite communications system was also cancelled. These decisions raise concerns about our national security and technological advancement
In a recent article by @cassandrasteer.bsky.social, Chair of the ACSG, she asks a critical question: What does Australia need to secure, and how can space help? With recent budget cuts leading to the cancellation of key satellite projects, the future of Australian space capabilities is uncertain
“Space law is every type of law that follows humans in one way or another in space.”
Our ACSG Steering Committee member @staceyhenderson.bsky.social joined @crisveijk.bsky.social & @pagingdrpaige.bsky.social on the #CalledtoTheBar podcast to talk about why space law matters.
I've started a Substack called "Space Citizens", as I write a book. Space matters, in ways you may not think of, and more than you may realise. My mission is to raise Space literacy across government and militaries, policy and decision-makers, and the public. open.substack.com/pub/cassandr...
A key session at WRegSAT I explored First Nations’ perspectives on “sky country”, highlighting how Indigenous custodianship can shape responsible & sustainable space governance. Stay tuned for more updates on WRegSAT & ACSG’s thought leadership in Australian space law. #spacegovernance #spacelaw
WRegSAT I aims to provide expert leadership on Australia’s objectives in outer space, ensuring its regulatory framework is robust & future-focused. Discussions covered comparative regulation, historical context & regulatory theory, shaping a clearer path for Australia’s space governance.
Last week, WRegSAT I Workshop 1, an ACSG initiative hosted by UNSW Canberra with support from Gilbert + Tobin, brought together experts to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Australia’s space regulatory framework. An Australian Space Agency representative also attended.

Our chair, @cassandrasteer.bsky.social, explores the evolving 21st-century spacescape and why space governance must move beyond its state-centric roots. As space citizens, we all have a stake in a multi-stakeholder, multi-domain, inclusive & intergenerational approach to security & sustainability.
@vsamsondc.bsky.social and @almuazcarate.bsky.social, who previously featured on an ACSG podcast, have published an expert paper on counter-space capabilities. The paper examines multilateral efforts and regulatory mechanisms for managing both civilian and military uses in space governance.
Announcement of the new UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies reminded me that the first resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1946 was on tech governance, in response to what was then the recent discovery of nuclear energy and the existential threat posed by nuclear weapons

Since I wrote this in Oct on the need for opening dialogue on space governance between the US-led Artemis and China-led ILRS frameworks, Thailand has just become the first nation to join both. Interesting to see if any others follow now this ‘first’ has occurred. theconversation.com/space-isnt-a...
