Don't forget: ASK YOUR LIBRARY TO BUY THE BOOK!!
Libraries pay higher rates for books and requesting that your library purchase a book: A) costs you nothing and B) will make the author so, so happy

Baltimore City Council looks ready to ban cooperation with ICE
We shouldn't be on any path towards anything to do with this. Instead of saying "Gee this war is bad" politicians need to step up and start calling it out for the illegal, immoral, unconstitutional war it is, and not let up for one single breath about those facts
Trump's war is illegal and a terrible mistake. And it needs to end as soon as possible.

NEH's budget is tinyβnot just compared to NSF/NIH, but compared to humanities funding in every other wealthy nation. What little was there was largely rescinded and several programs were cut in full last year. It decimated not merely individual projects but whole corners of the humanities in the US.

Trump teaming up with Israel on this makes it impossible to ignore how disastrous Bidenβs βbear hugβ policy was in the moment, through the election, and even moreso in hindsight.
iβm tired of every paper (even critical ones) on societal impact of AI starting by both-siding the βbenefitsβ and risks/harms of AI
in academia, i would like us to arrive at a collective reckoning that we donβt need to play both sides. it's totally legit to clearly state just the harms. period
INBOX: @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social dropped a 90s sitcom-themed video endorsement of @bradlander.bsky.social, specifically calling out AIPAC's influence:
NEW, from me: I talked to people who shut down Patriot Front's rally in D.C. last month.
Counter-demonstrators made it impossible for PF to produce propaganda and recruit at the March for Life rally. The clown music set the tone.

It's not a time for speeches or hand-wringing but for collective action at the state level. This will not end with Minnesota.
Faculty have incentive to invest most of their mentoring in students who they perceive as needing little help to succeed in "elite" academia, because the less help their students need, the more energy they can devote to their research (and the more their students can contribute to their work). 3/
Take "elite" academia's culture of cruelty, which stems from the fact that faculty rewards for research far exceed those for teaching/mentoring, especially at the PhD level where students don't pay tuition. In that context, faculty have incentive to be sh*tty mentors, except to a few "winners." 2/
I'm glad to see accountability for academia's bad apples. But I also hope that resignations like this one won't be the end of the story. Because we still need to reckon with how the structures and cultures in "elite" academia have created ripe conditions for rot. 1/π§΅

"That's illegal" is very helpful. It gives people a reason to call their congresspeople and demand it be reversed.
"They'll just break the law anyway" isn a #loserpost
