The quiet politics of grammar.
I used to teach present continuous and passive voice as neutral grammar points, until I came across this:
โข Gaza is starving
โข Gaza is being starved
Both describe suffering, but only one hints at agency!

On this World Refugee Day, Iโm not only thinking of the millions displaced by war, persecution, and climate disasters, but also of the quiet strength it takes to rebuild a life from scratch.
Many of our colleagues are quietly carrying the weight of war. What can we do? ๐ค๐ค๐ค
