The stock market, over-leveraged property speculation and access to the tax avoidance industrial complex is not "the economy."

Spread the word.

THIS is how you make "eat the rich" a sustainable lifestyle choice - lure 'em in, then trap the succulent little meatbags.

The only green shoots in this economy are being blazed up by the hacks looking at news like this and hallucinating an economic vibes-covery. #nzpol

THIS. Pathological Islamophobia no more magically appears out of thin air than does antisemitism. Bigotry is made not born - and its everyone's job to make it socially, culturally and politically unacceptable wherever it is to be found. Nobody gets to sit this one out.

I'd be marginally more sympathetic to Tarantino being a whiny little bitch about an actor making a unflattering passing reference in a single interview promoting her new film, if his whole persona over the last three decades hasn't been "extremely opinionated hipster film brat."

Also, interesting how Tarantino imputes bad faith motives to Arquette for a passing reference in an interview she did with a single newspaper (not "132 media outlets") while doing press for her new films. Which is what actors do, right?

It really was - very long time since I last saw it, and Id forgotten how it bops along. It's manic but well crafted at a level where you don't get lost. And everyone really enjoyed it, which is what you want for an opening night.

Seriously THIS. There were many reasons COME AND SEE infamously spent over a decade in Soviet development Hell but "the film was ambiguous or generally soft on the Nazis" was not among them.

THIS - As the kids say, it was throughly cringe to see Godard's La Chinoise last year and be reminded how utterly bizarre and obnoxious Mao Chic was in certain circles of the Euro-trash left. Fascist Drip is no improvement.

This is just one front in what's so exhausting about the forever culture war grift. Conflict = attention = clout/cash. Like any drug, you need an ever increasing dose to maintain your high. There always comes a point where you'll do anything - however degrading or absurd - for the next line.

10.03.2026 22:21 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes! And honestly, its been a very long time since my brief and inglorious time as a journalist but the stuff these folks churn out just doesn't pass the sniff test. If their "scoops" had any substaance how the hell is the mainstream trades not all over it? Don't trust, always verify.

OK, so let me see if I've got this right.

Where J.K. Rowling is concerned, everyone has to "separate the artist from the art."

Everyone except Rowling herself when she want to do her"Harry Potter, c'est moi" bit again.

THIS. Also, if you're the CEO of a company figuratively in bed with an artist whose "brand" was deliberately bound with her hard luck backstory from the start? You don't get to have it both ways.

Paperbacks from Hell From the pages of Grady Hendrix's best-sellingย  Paperbacks from Hell ย  (Quirk Books, 2017), Valancourt Books is pleased to announce a new limited series of long-unavailable paperback horror gems...

... the rights to many of these titles when the publishers ceased to exist decades ago (and their files vanished if they ever existed) and they were often written under pseudonyms by writers whose estates had no idea.

That's why I have nothing but respect for pop culture archaeologists. Valancourt Books has a rather nifty imprint called Paperbacks from Hell, which reprints some of the best titles from the paperback original horror boom of the 70's and 80's. It took years to track down who actually held...

10.03.2026 21:15 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Absolutely - and there's plenty of things that never even got the chance at a physical media or streaming second life becaause the rights are FUBAR and nobody sees a good business case for putting in the effort and coin to untangling them. Too "niche" to make a buck off.

THIS. I'm also a Whovian, and sorry if I come across as a salt vampire here, but the pro-hater wing of #StarTrek fandom don't know their good fortune. Nobody wiped and recycled the tapes of great chunks of TOS. Like them or not, every Trek show and film is intact and readily accessible.

10.03.2026 20:51 ๐Ÿ‘ 7 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

YES! I'm not a hard core Trekkie, but own physical copies of all the Trek films,, TOS, DS9, PRODIGY, most of TNG and ENTERPRISE, If the finances allowed it would be simplicity itself to stream virtually everything else.

I guess so... its hard to tell when Leavitt can't even swallow her own nonsense and spins out into word salad spinner mode. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Seriously THIS. If [insert your least favourite #StarTrek content here] isn't your cup of Earl Grey hot, there's got to be *something* in the giant mountain of film, television, prose fiction, comic books and ancillary media produced over the last 60 years that will turn you on. Right?

"Hate-watching" isn't the most ridiculous waste of time and energy in existence, but its definitely top 5. I'm just old enough to remember the long before times when, here in New Zealand, there were two TV stations. The one you watched Star Trek and Doctor Who on, and the other one.

No harm no foul - do get the grating Pee-Wee energy off Simeon Brown. ๐Ÿคฎ

10.03.2026 20:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Somwhat unfair to Paul Rubens - who was an extremely talented and hard-working creative artist. Simeon Brown is none of the above.

10.03.2026 19:56 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Wouldn't that be nice... The thing is, Simple Simeon's only setting is "trolling shitposter" - and when, not if, the next once in a century global health crisis rolls into town it won't care how slick your memes are. #nzpol

There is not enough hard currency on Earth to make worthwhile the presence of a tourist in a state of high dudgeon that the rest of the planet isn't a string of Disney theme parks entirely keyed to their comfort and convenience.

The problem with "centrist" Democratic Party figures isn't that they're too old, or while or male (though a lot of them fill the whole bingo card). It's that they're party machine hacks who've never been on a competitive ballot that would require them to listen to actual peasants.
