February 2-4 strikes killed 51-74 civilians according to
@acleddata.bsky.social. Victims include families including children, shop owners and tea sellers. Many survivors cannot afford surgery to remove bomb fragments.
Human Rights Watch identified OFAB-250 and FAB-series unguided air-dropped bombs. These weapons have wide-area effects with limited accuracy, making strikes on populated areas indiscriminate under international law and apparent war crimes when deliberate or reckless.
"The airstrikes are the worst, because they destroy everything. When it comes to bullets, people can avoid them and take cover from them, but we cannot take cover from airstrikes. They are too powerful," said a daily laborer who lost his sister and nephew in the attacks.
Nyala, home to over 800,000 residents, has been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces since October 2023. SAF has intensified airstrikes since late 2024 as RSF uses Nyala airport as a drone base.
