Original Illustration created by me, broken into three boxes. Two boxes in the top half, and one box for the bottom half. In the bottom box is an illustration of the Perseverance Mars Rover in shades of blue, white and orange. In the top left box is an orange circle on a blue background to represent Mars. In the top right box is an illustration of the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter in shades of blue, orange, and white.
Happy 5th Landing-iversary to the Perseverance Mars Rover!
I made this illustration to celebrate the landing 5 years ago and it’s still an all-time personal favorite.

These structures are called stromatolites. They are sedimentary formations created by successive layers of microorganisms such as cyanobacteria. Photosynthesis is starting to change the planet forever. Even today, billions of years later, fossilized remains of these unique ecosystems can be seen across the planet.

Oops, I blinked and we’re almost halfway through December. Here’s a design from all the way back in 2019 that I shockingly still love. P is for Parker Solar Probe.

My linocut portrait of geologist Florence Bascom as a young woman from neck up, in blue, looking at the viewer with her curly hair pulled back wearing a blouse with large lace collar on green vinyl. Behind her are two geological cross-sections with layers carved with different patterns to indicate different rock materials in black. Below on either side are two circular diagrams: these are thin sections of rhyolite printed in pale beige, brown, and black.

My 11” x 14” linocut portrait of Sophie Brahe, a Renaissance aristocrat in headgear, ruff, dark clothing with medallion on a wide band and a long scarf or other thin fabric draped over her shoulders with her hands folded in front of her and alchemical vessels, printed in dark bronze ink, on a bronze background. In green behind her head is a map of the gardens at Uranienborg, with her head at the centre of the diamond shaped pale green knot garden (geometric planned gardens). This is surrounded by an orchard in darker green with semicircle bump outs on each side of the diamond. The stars of Cassiopeia from De stelle nova are printed in gold on top of everything; there are stars across her chest and ruff and in the garden and the large supernova is above her head
Day 2 #artAdventCalendar I made several portraits this year including Sophie Brahe (1559 or 1556 -1643) horticulturalist, astronomer, genealogist, & alchemist 🐡👩🏼🔬🧪🔭with the gardens at her brother #astronomer Tycho Brahe’s Uraniborg estate, where she often assisted his research, alchemical tools &

#ArtAdventCalendar Guidelines
Art can be almost anything. Paintings, drawings, sculpture, textiles, beading, photography, digital. If you think it's art and it beautifies the timeline then post it. No NFTs or Al art please
PLEASE USE ALT TEXT
It does not matter if you "posted it last year".
You don't need to be a "professional" artist. If you make art at any experience level and want to show it off and make others happy, this is the event
Art must be original and it must be yours or from a family member with permission. Please don’t post works from other artists, old masters etc
Art does NOT have to be seasonal. It can be pretty much any subject, but please keep it family friendly-ish
Please don't cross post with just links to other platforms. Most links to other social media sites don't show with images at all and if they do they are usually thumbnails
Please do not post prices or use BUY NOW kinds of posts. We are bombarded with hard sell at this time of year and that's not what this is about. This is not meant to be a sales pitch. You can post links to your website if you like
Please share posts and follow participating artists. This is both an exercise to build a following of art lovers and to build a supportive community of fellow artists. If you like someone else's work, let them know!
As "organizer" I do my best to share all art during the month but if I miss a post, please don't take it as an insult or commentary on your work. There are a lot of posts and I will miss a few. Note that I won't share posts that contain prices or buy now content
Post daily or as much as you can with the hashtag #ArtAdvent Calendar There is no specified time to post. It's a worldwide event so time you post isn't that important
Don't worry if you miss a day or two. Post even if you only have 1 thing to show off that makes the timeline brighter
While the event dates are the 1st to the 24th, feel free to continue to post until the end of the month if you like
Are You Ready???

Digital illustration of a barren, rocky Martian landscape. The sun is about to set (or just risen). Unlike on Earth, sunsets and sunrises on Mars can often appear blue, as here.
Art copyright Mark A Garlick
My artwork of a Sunset on Mars. Dust and small particles suspended in the Martian atmosphere scatter light in the direction of the Sun forward. This creates a blue halo around the setting Sun, rendering a Martian landscape quite different from its terrestrial equivalent.

This illustration shows the gas giant Saturn with some of its many satellites in front. In the foreground is Rhea, the second largest moon of this planet, after Titan. With a mean diameter of 1528 km (764 miles), Rhea is about half the size of our own Moon. Its surface is heavily cratered, with two very large impact basins and numerous fractures. Its density suggests it is made up of about one-quarter rock and three-quarters water ice. Four other Saturnian moons can be seen in the distance, close to the ring plane. From left to right they are Dione, Mimas, Enceladus and Tethys.
An artist's impression of Charon as it might appear from the surface of Pluto. In this depiction, Charon's phase is new - i.e. the Sun is directly behind it. Therefore Charon is only visible by the faint sunlight that Pluto reflects onto it from the Sun. Because Pluto and Charon are tidally locked, they keep the same face towards each other at all times, as the Moon does to the Earth. So if one stood on Charon (or Pluto) the other world would stay fixed in the sky - never setting or rising, but still cycling through its phases. And if one were on the wrong hemisphere of Pluto (or Charon) one would never see the other world. The New Horizons probe recently revealed that Pluto has clouds in its atmosphere, as this illustration depicts.
Artwork of the Jovian moon Io, seen against the backdrop of Jupiter's Great Red Spot. The latter is a vast, cyclonic storm - wider than the entire Earth - that has raged for centuries. Io, a highly volcanic world, is the innermost Galilean moon of Jupiter.
Illustration of a coronal mass ejection emanating from the Sun. These events, CMEs for short, are powerful releases of solar charged particles (plasma) and magnetic field, travelling on the solar wind. When a CME hits Earth, it can cause a geomagnetic storm which disrupts the planet’s magnetosphere, our radio transmissions and electrical power lines. They can damage artificial satellites and cause long-lasting power outages. Humans in orbit are also very vulnerable to these events, whose high-energy particles are not shield by typical spacecraft.
Time for a #spaceart showcase? Yeah, I thought so. I created these with various software, mostly #Blender, #photoshop and #3dsmax

Hi Kevin! I do sometimes, but usually only if they’re space/aerospace related. I will be taking (or at least trying to) a short breather after this month before I take on new projects. But if you want, you can send me an email with more info. My email can be found at the link in my bio.
