This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

In fact, when I mentioned it to one PI, he asked why they were bothering, since most of the archaeological deposits there had already been destroyed. Just an absolutely morally bankrupt way to think about Indigenous cultural heritage, and yet remains wildly prevalent in both academia and CRM

I worked in the SF Bay Area for 2 years and was absolutely shocked to discover that I was apparently the only senior archaeologist at the company following the efforts to rematriate a shellmound village site to an Indigenous land trust

A Cornell study: Sycophantic AI Decreases Prosocial Intentions and Promotes Dependence Both the general public and academic communities have raised concerns about sycophancy , the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) excessively agreeing with or flattering users. Yet, beyond isolated media reports of severe consequences, like rein- forcing delusions, little is known about the extent of sycophancy or how it affects people who use AI. Here we show the pervasiveness and harmful impacts of sycophancy when people seek advice from AI. First, across 11 state-of-the-art AI models, we find that models are highly sycophantic: they affirm users’ actions 50% more than humans do, and they do so even in cases where user queries mention manipulation, decep- tion, or other relational harms. Second, in two preregistered experiments (N = 1604), including a live-interaction study where participants discuss a real interpersonal conflict from their life, we find that interaction with sycophantic AI models significantly

reduced participants’ willingness to take actions to repair interpersonal conflict, while increasing their conviction of being in the right. However, participants rated sycophan- tic responses as higher quality, trusted the sycophantic AI model more, and were more willing to use it again. This suggests that people are drawn to AI that unquestioningly validate, even as that validation risks eroding their judgment and reducing their incli- nation toward prosocial behavior. These preferences create perverse incentives both for people to increasingly rely on sycophantic AI models and for AI model training to favor sycophancy. Our findings highlight the necessity of explicitly addressing this incentive structure to mitigate the widespread risks of AI sycophancy.

On a related note, "rich person's son" was used as an insult because it referenced children of leaders who didn't earn their status/wealth on their own merit/with the intention of fulfilling their kinship responsibilities to the community

One of my favorite oral historical stories is from Miluk and describes a greedy person who was accumulating wealth with no intention of sharing so they killed him ✨

There are three major forms of wealth: longevity, health, community and not in that order.

Money is a means to acquiring those riches, not the end goal.

Having 'plenty' means sharing it with community so everyone gets a crack at health & longevity.

Community lasts longer and better as a result.

The thing about mutual aid is that it requires you to get out of a hierarchical mindset where those in need are below you, not your peers, & you can't assist because they're not worthy humans. If you're privileged get out of only hanging with the privileged & meet some social scum eye to eye.
