The Mortuary at Picton Castle

During WWII, Picton Castle was used as a hospital. One room (originally a butcher’s shop) was converted into a mortuary, and the original slab used for the deceased still stands in the centre today.

Ruthin Castle

The original castle was founded by Edward l in 1277. It was attacked by Owain Glyndwr in 1400 and laid waste in 1646 after the Civil War.

The castle ruins remain around and below the modern castle built in 1826.

Clava Cairns, Balnuaran of Clava are around 4,000 years old. They were built to house the dead. The site dates to the Bronze Age but Neolithic flints found during excavations indicate the area was being used well before building of the cairns.
