Today, Yanar Mohammed – one of the most formidable feminist leaders of her generation – was assassinated in her home in Baghdad in what appears to have been a targeted militia attack.

We welcome the acquittal of peasant organiser #AmandaEchanis and demand accountability for the violations of her rights. Amanda was acquitted on January 14, 2026 after spending more than five years in detention over trumped-up charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Amani Al-Zain was arbitrarily arrested on 17 May 2020 by the Presidency of State Security on direct orders from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Her detention continued with no public trial.
