Me standing on the suspension bridge in Bedford, England
The suspension bridge in Bedford while it was being built in 1888
In half term I had an evening out in my old home town. Here's a picture of me standing on the Suspension Bridge not far from where I grew up. I just found a photo on my computer from when the bridge was being built and thought it was interesting to see them together.

βHistorians call this passageway a masterwork of deliberate concealment, designed to be absolutely invisible to slave catchers or city marshals during the 19th-centuryβ

Great article!
Another great way to win is to go to jail and stay there for as long as you can.
Yes, quite ridiculous!
Seriously, did no one ever ask her?
Is it a vast file, Phil?
Wishing everyone all the best for 2026. Here is my 2025 recap... dnapainter.com/blog/genealo...
Excerpt of a death certificate with: 10. When a minor: Name of Father, Name of Mother (They didn't collect this information unless the deceased was a minor)
Philadephia death certificate designers of the 1890s: what were you thinking of? Arrgh!

I had a long drive yesterday. I wanted some music, so I asked
Siri: Please play "By the time I get to Phoenix" by Glen Campbell
Siri replied:
"I'm going to need you to turn on location services for that"

It would really have been helpful if deaths recorded in the parish records at St. Faith's in Havant had mentioned the age of the person. I get that it might have taken two or three more penstrokes, but come on!
It's really a great feature. To my shame I haven't yet contacted any of the distant cousins it found me!
I wrote that because both my parents have Denmark. I don't, in fact. Overall, I definitely find these estimates less fictional then they used to be, but for me, they're still mainly for entertainment.
Ancestry Regions update: Denmark is the new Netherlands it seems!
Odd - working for me; I've been working on there all afternoon!
The only positive here is that I am quite impressed with the work I did 9 years back!
Bit late for #AncestryHour but: I found digitized Hampshire wills at Ancestry and excitedly researched them yesterday. Felt a bit familiar but I wasn't sure. I then reviewed my notes and found I had ordered paper copies and done the same research except perhaps more thoroughly back in 2016. Oh dear!
Alas, no there isn't, sorry!
Hi Jonny just wanted to say: I really admire what you do at DNA Painter. Handymen and craftsmen like you are the backbone of every community. You build, fix and create the things that everyone else depends on. Without your work, nothing really functions.
