Right! I’m (embarrassingly) not even a huge fan of Blood Meridian, but his stylistic choices are part of the whole experience and central to the art of the book!

I think that’s the thing that both the dogmatic boosters and dogmatic naysayers about AI miss: So much of human generated corpus (prose, code, art, music, theories) is utter garbage. Like it’s complete trash. So approaching β€œhuman” levels is neither as impressive nor as world-ending.

I try to not be dogmatic about this because in truth, there is SO much human slop out there (especially from the pre-LLM content farms) β€” like SO much β€” that isn’t artistic at all, but simply means to an end. And in that scenario, I will prefer robot generated text.

(Also I decided to take this quiz under the guise of can you tell what is human vs AI. I got a perfect score. That isn't to say all human writing is better; I've read and edited some truly terrible human writing that I would gladly trade for the machine prose. But I know the tells of each.)

Yeah my best score was on my iPad Pro with brightness up but I might try again with my Apple Pencil to even more precise!

I'm sure part of why it looks like almost all the review units were the 256GB version (and Apple usually seeds higher specced versions) is because Apple knows that the base model is the one everyone will buy.

I put this all out there not to dismiss the Neo AT ALL, but to point out that you can get a lot of laptop for $760 vs $700 for the upgraded Neo.

10.03.2026 16:55 πŸ‘ 7 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Even at $600 with the student discount, I think the move is either save the $100 and use that money on Apple Care or accessories or still pony up $160 for the refurb M4 Air from Apple.

10.03.2026 16:55 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Now the caveat is that I don't know how many of the refurb M4s there will be and the M5 Air refurbs will be priced at least $100 more since the laptop is $100 more MSRP. But today in March 2026, I would beg anyone looking at the $700 MacBook Neo to get the M4 Air.

10.03.2026 16:55 πŸ‘ 5 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

At $700, I think you can do better from Apple, at least right now. The refurb M4 MacBook Air is only $760. For $60 you get 16GB of RAM, MagSafe, better screen/keyboard/trackpad/speakers, full Thunderbolt 4 ports, and much better performance. The 512 vs 256 storage doesn't matter in this category.

10.03.2026 16:55 πŸ‘ 7 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Now that the reviews are out (I don't have one but am considering a pink one as a pure thin client) I think the only MacBook Neo most people should get is the base config. At $600 ($500 for students), that seems fair and it makes the right trade-offs. 🧡

Tables and Chairs (Orchestral Version) with Nu Deco Ensemble YouTube video by Andrew Bird

Inspired by @filmgirl.bsky.social and current events, today I've been listening to songs about the end of the world. One of the sweetest and most hopeful is also perhaps my favorite in a surprisingly rich "false apocalypse" genre that David Bowie probably invented. You might need to hear this too.

The assorted Jeff Buckley covers are my favorite versions of that song tbh but it’s prob my favorite Smiths song

A LOT of Radiohead because it started out as a Radiohead EOTW playlist but evolved. Spotify or Apple Music?

It had a shot under Netflix to at least still make quality content. Not anymore.

27.02.2026 17:24 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

With what money, exactly? You’re talking about the greatest television network in history with the strongest run of originals. People already won’t spend on quality. So this is over. It won’t be replaced by anything better. Art is dead.

27.02.2026 00:10 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

It wasn’t but it was better. And all the Turner networks essentially did under Discovery. They weren’t going to be part of the Netflix sale and paramount will gut them immediately. Ted Turner built a fantastic empire and it now dies
