Been working to create more accessible tools for getting started with R for psychologists. GitHub Pages has been a great tool for allowing me to do this (dharaden.github.io/psyc640/). Aiming to create another site for a broader audience and would love suggestions!

We all know: humans are very social animals
But this study helps to quantify that premise. (even things we "know" to be true need to be shown to be empirically true)
People prefer doing almost ALL activities with others (vs alone).

Cat sitting on mantle stares in judgement at you
Tidus is judging everyone who hasnβt paid the cat tax today.
Has there ever existed a person who has a βto readβ pile who has actually finished that pile before adding to it? Or is it the case that if you have such a pile, it is prohibited by some law of nature for it to ever go down to zero?
BREAKING: NSF has frozen all grant funding, as of yesterday. It's unclear when they will resume funding awards, or why the pause has been put in place. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
NCA6 Update April 28, 2025 Dear NCA6 Participants, Thank you for your participation in the 6th National Climate Assessment. At this time, the scope of the NCA6 is currently being reevaluated in accordance with the Global Change Research Act of 1990. We are now releasing all current assessment participants from their roles. As plans develop for the assessment, there may be future opportunities to contribute or engage. Thank you for your service.
Well, it's official. We just received notice that all authors on the Sixth National Climate Assessment have just been released from their roles.
The NCA is a vital, Congressionally mandated resource for our nation as we prepare for the impacts of climate change. This is a huge loss.
The NSF has stopped funding research into disinformation, a disinformation researcher highlighted why this is such a bad idea:
βWe know false information is out there, we know it spreads widely, and itβs important for peopleβs health and for democracy to understand what we can do about it.β
So sorry to hear this Franki. You and your team deserve so much better than how you are being treated.
My PhD student's NSF grant was terminated today. Her dissertation investigates why air pollution monitoring, metrics, and regulations don't properly capture the harms experienced by marginalized communities--esp in the most polluted Detroit neighborhoods. She and I are happy to talk with press etc.
I got an email yesterday afternoon that my NSF SPRF Postdoctoral Fellowship was terminated. My grant focused on testing interventions to address online misinformation and I was 8 months into a two year appointment.
Great work by @NSF canceling 402 wasteful DEI grants ($233M in savings), including $1M for βAntiracist Teacher Leadership for Statewide Transformationβ. See the NSF update below. Grant awards will be based on merit, competition, equal opportunity, and excellence.
π§ͺ DOGE is reporting cancelling 402 NSF grants today.
And let's recap: this is for awards that NSF has **ALREADY** judged as aligned with its mission in law, which includes broadening participation in STEM.
It bears repeating: the law supersedes exec orders. For more: www.aaup.org/sites/defaul...

We will keep your identity confidential. These resources are maintained by Noam Ross of rOpenSci and Scott Delaney of the Harvard T.H. π¨Report your NSF grant terminations! π¨
We are starting to collect information on NSF grant terminations to create a shared resource as we have for NIH. The more information we collect, the more we can organize, advocate, and fight back! Please share widely!

The U.S. has two tsunami warning centers, both operated by NOAA. Employees were terminated from these centers today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center covers HawaiΚ»i, and now it is less safe to be near the beach.

Two preconferences, one poster, one symposium, many events, and more reunions than I can count. #SPSP2025 is a wrap and I am so grateful for the reconnection. Until next year!
5) @psycheddiego.bsky.social extended interdependence research by surveying Mayangna participants to examine how shared fate impacts their cooperation. The more positive stake & shared fate in relationships, the more people tended to cooperate. #EPatSPSP2025 #SPSP2025
4) Ryan Dobson conducted a longitudinal progesterone study to re-examine the social support vigilance hypothesis. Between women fluctuations in P were predictive of vigilance but within woman fluctuations were not. #EPatSPSP2025 #SPSP2025
3) Sierra Peters tested competing predictions about sexual desire. Within subject fluctuations in desire for partners predicted greater desire for alternatives (& vice versa). Priming desire for alternatives increased desire for partners, but not vice versa. #EPatSPSP2025 #SPSP2025
2) Susan Chen examined how different life history correlates are related to youth gang involvement. Such an interesting study of an under-considered population! #EPatSPSP2025 #SPSP2025
Last, some highlights from the #EPatSPSP2025 datablitzes:
1) A seriously cool talk by @wnmerrell.bsky.social about how we infer clustered (patchy) resource distribution based on an areaβs hierarchicalness (& vice versa). Who knew lobstering could be so socially complex?! #SPSP2025
Yay! Iβm glad the metaphor did your point justice.
Yes. Women tend to infer gossipiness at higher rates than men, may have their information sharing perceived more as gossip, and may sometimes suffer likability penalities for gossiping. However, context matters. (3/3) @drmeltemyucel.bsky.social #EPatSPSP2025 #SPSP2025
Gossip has many useful functions from info spreading to norm enforcement. Men & women tend to info share at similar rates. But are there gendered differences in what we perceive as gossip, & our social perceptions of gossipers? Does context matter? (2/3) @drmeltemyucel.bsky.social #EPatSPSP2025
