“Pesta Babi” is a powerful investigative documentary directed by Dandhy Laksono and Cypri Dale that brings viewers into the heart of Papua. The film follows Indigenous communities in Merauke whose forests and ancestral lands are being transformed into massive industrial plantations under state-backed “food security” and energy projects. Through field investigation and community testimonies, the documentary exposes the political, corporate, and military networks behind one of the largest forest conversion projects in modern history.
Produced through a collaboration between Watchdoc, Jubi Media, Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, Yayasan Pusaka Bentala Rakyat, and Greenpeace Indonesia, the film documents the struggles of Marind, Yei, Awyu, and other Indigenous communities resisting dispossession and environmental destruction in southern Papua.
After the screening, join a discussion with:

Book Discussion: Festivals of Southeast Asia with Anita Bose
March 12 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
The unique and joyous celebrations filled with cultural significant, embedded in longstanding tradition and spiritual beliefs draw people from around the world to Southeast Asia each year. On 12 March 2026 at 5.30–7.00 pm, SEA Junction invites you to a book discussion to explore Southeast Asia’s rich and diverse cultural celebrations. Anita Bose’s new book Festivals of Southeast Asia takes you you on a vibrant journey through the most cherished festivals of Thailand, Indonesia, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. It highlights how festivals across Southeast Asia reflect histories and local beliefs, as well as longstanding cultural connections with India that continue to shape rituals, symbols, and community life. From religious observances to seasonal and community-based festivities, the book offers insight into how traditions are practiced, adapted, and reinterpreted in contemporary societies.
The book launch to take place at SEA Junction, features a presentation by the author, followed by a conversation and Q&A session with the audience. The event will be conducted in English and livestreamed on SEA Junction Facebook Page (@SEA-Junction).

Symbols and Songs in East and Southeast Asian Youth Movements
5 p.m.
Dwinelle 370
This talk will move between the Hong Kong struggles of the 2010s and the protests in Thailand and Myanmar in the early 2020s. The speaker will pay particular attention to the role popular culture played in connecting participants in the transnational network linking activists in these locales, which came to be known as “The Milk Tea Alliance,” as well as in enlivening demonstrations in each setting. He will also look back to eras before the 2010s in search of precedents for that Alliance, and look forward to the present and suggest the Alliance’s relevance for thinking about very recent Gen Z upheavals in places like Nepal.

Democratization Learning Space
Daybreaker Network is a knowledge-sharing community by and for local organizers, who believe in building "People Power" by accumulating and managing knowledge within social movements to make it accessible to everyone. We recognize that international training programs often come with language barriers, which frequently prevent grassroots activists and community organizers from accessing vital opportunities to exchange experiences with global movements.
The struggle for democracy in Thailand can be exhausting and disheartening, sometimes leading us to believe that the challenges we face are unique or unprecedented. By opening the doors to the collective wisdom of movements worldwide, we aim to help Thai activists regain confidence in their own power and maintain hope in the possibility of building a lasting democracy.
In collaboration with iLaw and Asia Citizen Future Association (ACFA), Daybreaker Network invites you to explore the democratic movement in Taiwan, a nation that completed its transition to a full democracy only 38 years ago. We will examine their remarkable efforts to strengthen democratic values and human rights, making them a standout leader in the Asian region. This course also features comparative insights from Thai political scientists.
