The University of Texas System has passed a set of rules regulating the teaching of "controversy." The administration of each university in the system gets to decide what constitutes controversy. I've published an op-ed in the Austin Statesman respoonding.

Between Beveridge and Bismarck: Preferences for redistribution through public pensions
We examine preferences for redistribution in Germanyβs public pension system as well as notions of fairness of the system, using survey and experimentβ¦
New publication with Breyer, Sterba, &Schwerdt @excinequality.bsky.social
In an experiment, a 1/3 of respondents are able to identify the actual distribution of pensions according to the German pension regime. Politicians do a bit better. Citizens & politicians want more redistributive pensions.

Agree for most part, Maarten, but there was a measure of cowardice/bad faith in that reform (sadly directed at the most vulnerable). It may have been the cost of doing business in an unwieldy coalition, but it was problematic nonetheless. Labour doesnβt have that excuse, so itβs even worse.

Canada Strong | Liberal Party of Canada
Download our plan
The Liberal platform is fairly strong on policy but rather weak on governance.
It would require a serious effort to renew intergovernmental relations to accomplish this - by institutionalizing Team Canada and envisioning a formal role for municipal and Indigenous stakeholders.

Harvard redid its whole homepage to push back against the administrationβs demands. I mean, this is just a website but I think itβs kind of a great PR move: www.harvard.edu

Unbelehrbar.

So, βreal reformβ might require less stringent interpretations of human rights and Germany purposefully undermining EU asylum laws/procedures? And mandatory detention to boot? An alarming prescription that pours rhetorical gasoline onto the fire that is migration politics in Germany. Shocking & sad.
