or at least, i don't, and people I've talked to mostly don't. we remember the story (if that, tbh!), and how much we enjoyed it, and *maybe* how seamless the telling felt, or how rough, or dense, or beautiful. we remember the affect, and the effect it had on us, and that's about it. ime!

i could tell you for my favorite books (because I've thought about it) and i can tell you for my current read (because the 2nd person was jarring and it took me a while to settle in), but for almost any other book? naw. i have a mild preference, but as you're pointing to, mostly we don't *remember*.

i do not know (i am in OR not WA), but a lot of programs for that age group are funded BY redirected public school funds. i have one kid in a college-based GED program, another in an alternative hs, both paid for by the school district because neither yet has their diploma. often it's about funding.
