If you're content to completely remove duty on diesel and petrol, and move ALL vehicles to the same 10p per mile additional tax on top of their normal vehicle excise duty... That would be a completely fair option....
That one part "no taxation is ringfenced anywhere it all goes into the pot" is part of the issue... The energy used to charge an EV is already taxed, and this seems to be another ill-considered money-grabbing exercise by the government.
How many new roads are being built? Maintenance of roads is carried out by local authorities, but that maintenance is not paid for by taxes on fuel or the annual 'car tax', and comes out of the local authorities budget
