Great article. It’s an epic sport. Went to watch it when I had a weekend in Oslo a few years ago, it turned into one of my favourite ever days watching sport. Followed it religiously ever since

A winter’s day as it should be at Sandown. A big 👏to all involved in getting the fixture on in polar conditions
Vanderpoel is a proper lovely horse
It’s a daily visit at the moment, waiting to discover how many games in the Krakow area are possible at the end of Feb
Torquay crashing out meant I had to get FA Cup fun elsewhere - so a first trip to Farnham Town, who dismantled Dorchester
Regardless that the club has been back in safe hands for over a year now and the future looks bright - a mid-September FA Cup exit still rankles #tufc
Torquay United are a club reborn after the bad days, with the community reconnected to the ground. I was proud to play a small part in that, so I went to spend a joyous day in the sun.

Absolutely no mention of the previous owners (who were largely invisible) who were driving the club out of existence! I think I know which approach I prefer
Served by Angus Fraser at Radlett. Lovely pint of Ascension cider, £6 a pint counts as cheap at a sports venue too!
A point at Maidstone, which was a bit of a steal. An added time penalty makes an underwhelming Torquay performance seem a little better though. Kit looked top class at least
And in the hills
Considering I’d never heard of Ugljan 3 months ago, it’s turned out to be a gem. Both at sea level…
No to the Club World Cup, yes to Croatian island life for the next week 🇭🇷
The usual fantastic lunchtime ground access at The Oval. Sam Curran on show today
Warming up for the big one at Plainmoor tomorrow with a stroll along the coast path
Day off + opening day of the season + glorious weather = only one way to spend the next few hours

Out of curiosity, found myself watching plenty of Ali Omar’s Somalia debut in their WCQ game v Guinea. To be fair, he did pretty well as his side defended heroically in the surprise 0-0 draw #tufc
And an early start today for Floridsdorfer AC’s last minute win v First Vienna
A couple of Austria Div 2 games so far this weekend
Firstly Admira Wacker’s win v SW Bregenz
Weekend plans
We may struggle to break them down, they aren’t particularly free-scoring themselves. 0-0
First visit to Chertsey Town yesterday. Lovely little ground, seven goals & a nice red sky to end the game
Fell well short on my 2024 Books challenge, only managed 8. We go again.
Anyway, anyone on Goodreads, find me there & offer inspiration for 2025
Definitely better than rain
It’s a bit warmer than it should be, but can’t complain really
I’ve seen Steve McGavin score against Torquay & his son Brett score for us. And the rest of my evening will probably be spent thinking of more…
Windsor in winter, intrigued race goers streaming in. A bit of sun would be nice
That’s 2 very nice ones in a row
I liked the look of these and they have exceeded expectations. I think they might be the greatest chocolates ever
