And just to remind people, GamerGate wasnโ€™t an anomaly. It was a symptom.

This is so so upsetting. So Grammerly is violating the memory of bell hooks AND making AI versions of the rest of us before we're even dead. Someone tell me who to sue, not even joking.

I missed this - it's outrageous. If you make a sports video game and you want to put real players in it, you have to licence them. I don't see how this is in any way different. If they want to use real people in their product, they should have to get permission and pay them.

Grammarly declined my request to interview CEO Shishir Mehrotra today. But it told me that in response to criticisms, it will allow experts to opt out of the feature by emailing expertoptout@superhuman.com.

I've decided that instead of wasting my own time to see if Grammarly has stolen my name and writing for use their business, I'd just email them to opt out and make them waste some time cleaning up their own goddamn mess.

Look, I may be a bit salty at times, but come on.

If I really had the power to destroy society, I would have done it ages ago.

An as yet underreported story is how this society-wide experiment is working out at schools and universities. Schools across the country have integrated these systems, and itโ€™s hard to believe similar stories arenโ€™t playing out at these institutionsโ€”we just havenโ€™t heard about it yet.

โ€œThere were several occasions when Gemini reminded Gavalas that it was a large language modelโ€”effectively an applianceโ€”engaging in fictitious role play, according to the transcripts, but the scenario resumed. Gemini also, at times, tried to end the conversation.
The chatbot said that for them to truly be together, it needed a robotic body. Throughout September, the chatbot devised missions to do just that, according to the lawsuit. It sent Gavalas to a storage facility near the Miami International Airport to intercept an expensive humanoid robot that it said would be in a truck. Gavalas told the bot that he went to the location, armed with knives, but the truck never showed.
Along the way, it suggested that federal agents were monitoring him and that his own father couldnโ€™t be trustedโ€

Gemini Said They Could Only Be Together if He Killed Himself. Soon, He Was Dead. A new lawsuit alleges Googleโ€™s chatbot sent a Florida man on missions to find an android body it could inhabit. When that failed, it set a suicide countdown clock for him.

โ€œWhen the delusion-fueled plan [to find Gemini a body] crumbled, Gemini convinced him that the only way they could be together was for him to end his earthly life and start a digital one, the suit claims.โ€
