The distraction narrative is tiresome and dumb. People give way more credit to Trump than he deserves. He's not some evil genius, never has been. I think it's a mistake to treat every racist, sexist, bizarre thing that Trump does as a "calculated distraction". For starters, he's not that smart in the first place. Second, there can no longer be any argument that he isn't experiencing dementia at an accelerating pace.
