Shiboyugi's final stretch would be an all-time great sickos anime on its own, but it's even more compelling in the context of such a transformative adaptation. Every single structural change & original addition before this final arc make this conclusion more deliciously twisted

Great avan in Yuushakei #5. At first, the dim lighting and warped & tilted layouts convey Tsav's unnatural stance in regards to the value of human life, but as the main judge arrives, that same framing shifts sides to depict his unnerving presence and the twisted pleasure he derives from his job

Pretty good opening, protagonized by the same Tomoya Kitagawa and Takasemaru duo from the episode. The two sequences of match cuts centered on Frieren are such a clever no-brainer that it's surprising it took that long for someone to use it with the titular elf
Granny elf stocks are back up
Nothing quite says Frieren like an episodic adventure reminiscent of a long-gone past ending the same way it began
Was quite excited for the full uninterrupted version of this scene teased in the PVs, and it didn't disappoint. Gorgeous fire effects and remarkably dense smoke aside, I love how cohesive it all is, every shot flows seamlessly to the next, at times from unexpected perspectives
Recognizable in other ways too, namely its characteristic focus on material qualities and elegant depiction of light flares
Frieren is back like it never left. Reassuringly familiar in aspects like its delicate palettes and soothing art direction deeply rooted in culture, or the emphasis on ephemeral elements of its world, both constantly tied to its central themes of time and the transience of things

The episode initially leads you to believe the inherent friction between two anthitetic leads will drag the series' progression, only to surprise you with a straightforward affirmation at the end that opposites *do* attract, especially so when they're both hopelessly pathetic human beings
