Winter Thaw in the Smokies | R and R Fly Fishing This week has seen a dramatic warm up from the deep freeze we experienced for all of January. Last month was well below average and amounted to one of the longer stretches we’ve ever had without being...

A drastic weather swing in the Smokies has us fishing with our shirt sleeves rolled up. All the details from the stream in our latest fishing report:

It happens! Sounds like you saw one of the local bears in Gatlinburg. We live in a more rural area but have bears around the house from about mid March thru early December

That's a particularly red striped rainbow trout for the Smokies! Most usually have a blend of purple, pink and even yellow in the mix

Why Everything You Know About Bluegill Management is Wrong Every angler knows that if you don’t remove enough bluegills from a pond, they’ll overpopulate and become stunted. But new research says that idea is usually wrong, and the opposite may be true.

I've often heard anglers say that bluegills get stunted if you don't harvest enough. It turns out, the opposite is true. You can't harvest your way to big bluegills.

The end of the bulk of our guide season. Probably a few afternoon half day trips from now through February if conditions permit, but we resume our full day schedules in March.

But that means we finally get some personal fishing in now!
