To address increased gas prices, I haven't heard any congressional Democrats say anything about making transit free or providing funding for better service. I wonder why

After a brush with death, a bill to give Utah more control over SLC streets awaits Cox’s signature. Here’s what it would do. A transportation bill handing state officials veto power over designs of some of Salt Lake City's streets passed on the last day of Utah's legislative session.

β€œIn the House, some suburban Democrats joined the bulk of Republicans in a 55-14 vote to pass the bill.” Remember that some suburban Dems are not your friend when it comes to safe streets in cities. The motornormativity coalition is bipartisan

It's not left vs right as much as top vs bottom

Cool! I now want to ask everyone that I know of that age.

I hate how dependent we are on the car. I didn't know about rail being bought out just to be dismantled

I knew there was a trolley downtown SLC - I never knew there was more. Thanks for the education

To me the novel had a much bigger impact overall, but if putting it in graphic novel form helps some people read it, then I'm all for it because the subject matter is essential.

I think the main event was skipped over pretty quickly with only a few pages to describe the whole thing (and with a graphic novel, a few pages means a few seconds).

I remember liking the novel a lot more, but I'm not a big graphic novel fan. I think the graphic novel does a really good job showing the main character's mental anguish. It seems like in the novel the big real happens a lot earlier in the book, but I don't remember.

Speak: The Graphic Novel, Laura Halsey Anderson, 2018, 384p

8/10

I've listened the novel before so I decided to read the graphic novel to see how they compare.

It's been years since I listened to the novel, and I don't remember it as well as I thought I did.

Didn't the judges raise a 10 at the table? Why did it only get 9.975

Image of a car filled highway in congestion and gridlock, with three cigarette packs in front, one named gas, the second named hybrid, and the third named EV. The main text says β€œtaste the freedom.β€œ At the bottom is the tagline for the Urban Truth Collective.

Car dependency is the opposite of freedom.

Having said all of that, this book very much gave me the spirit of adventure. I also have a new respect for the native Americans, especially Sacagawea. It's amazing to learn how tough they all were, how in tune with the land, their culture, and the inter-tribe relations.

If you're looking for a very detailed and somewhat unimaginative account of the Lewis and Clark expedition, this is the one. If you're looking for something easy and a good introduction, look elsewhere.

Undaunted Courage, Stephen Ambrose, 1996, 592p, audio

6/10

This book was very long and dry and hard to get through. I slogged through because it's for my book club, I wouldn't have finished otherwise.

@jdart.bsky.social

We're planning on gymnastics this weekend. I've heard that flags are encouraged now at meets. Do you know the rules for what is allowed? I have a kid wanting to bring a sign attached to a PVC pipe

Let's all enjoy this video from six years ago of Sen. Mike Lee calling for a war powers resolution to limit the president's ability to strike Iran.

It's a good reminder that his interpretation of the Constitution depends on how it impacts Donald Trump.

Donald Trump put a Fox News commentator in charge of the Pentagon.

His Vice President was talking about war plans in a Signal chat.Β

He says he knows better than the generals.Β

This is who is putting our men and women in uniform in harm’s way.

I'm friends with the author and I'm pretty sure he only prints one when someone wants it, so I doubt you'll be white to find one. I'd be happy to let you borrow mine.

Maybe keep all of the info but make the majority of it footnotes? Maybe just do a high level overview in each chapter then say keep reading for all of the evidence the authors have?

Good book and ideas, just way too verbose.

The book lost me with how through it was. Based off the first 2 chapters, which is all that I made it through, this book should be heavily edited/abridged/revised down to about 1/4 of it's size. It's just way too detailed and thus takes way to long to get it's point across.

Did not finish

I liked the premise of this book and it was loaded with info from various studies, including full explanations.
