Interesting thread on choosing colleges with AI in mind. But also with other things in mind. Challenging times.

Of course, we could also share videos of the other Elvis.

If Allison is interested in watching the detectives as they strive for peace.

Maybe we should all share videos of Elvis? Online with our classes?

Ouch. It’s like not knowing who Bill Shakespeare was.

Ok, it’s just another way of making me feel old.

Kate’s right about this. Many of the MAGA faithful will only see the Trump version of this horror. They won’t be able to question the Trump narrative.

Is Your Political Candidate Showing Early Signs of Dementia? Politicians, like everyone else, age. Some will develop Alzheimer's disease or dementia. How worried should we be about potential cognitive declines in aging politicians?

I think most journalists don’t know what the signs of cognitive decline are. They think Trump is energetic. They also gloss over the actual signs (hopefully out of ignorance).

And now, it ain’t early signs of dementia in Trump. The signs are flashing neon!

Girl dinner?

Some of the students in my research lab were explaining the concept to me last year.

Not paying people to work?

Stopping the training of young people to think and be critical?

Giving oil and coal companies a reason to stay in business?

Serious answers. Oligarchs gonna oligarch (if that can be a verb).

Had a little leftover salmon from grilling last week. Used it in a cream sauce over some local fresh pasta tonight. (Having extra salmon last week was a goal because it makes for great leftover like this.)

Why yes, I did bike to work today.

You have to be committed to bike in the winter.

Or maybe

You should be committed for biking in the winter?

The easiest way to improve your business is to simplify things for consumers.

Fewer things for me to fill out when I am trying to give you money. Don't make me create an account. Don't use that as an excuse to send me emails forever.

I was worried they were tied to pay increases. Seems like you ought to make a decision to only count a paper once.

Our reviews tied to pay are once every 5 years. So things really just get counted once.

09.03.2026 15:16 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

How often are you doing merit reviews?

We do annual reviews for pre-tenure people. Preprints let us know they are on track. But only counted once when the tenure decision is made.

Our post-tenure reviews are every 5 years, so not really a problem.

Could be tricky if you do annual post-tenure.?

An analysis of over 14 million social media posts from accounts in Canada found that 87% of conspiratorial claims come from just 100 influencers.

This minority of users impacts politics, influencing what people view as normal and leads to self-censoring to avoid attacks from conspiracy theorists.

This is a great example of how Fox manipulates it's viewers. Because they trust only Fox, the Fox audience is completely vulnerable to manipulation by Fox. How could they know that what they're seeing with their own eyes isn't real? They couldn't. They're seeing it happen, it's right there!

Any time that corporations and politicians can convince people that it is personal rather than systemic, we run into more problems trying to address things.

Most of our current problems are systemic.

I was assuming this was some new and odd garden path sentence construction example.

But nope. It appears to mean exactly what it says. I guess Trump is picking the guy who picked other people's noses?

Sucking faster and more productively leads to pay increases! More likely to get invited to do TedTalks. Then the talk show circuit. And finally selling out everyone and everything to get the big payouts for becoming a right-wing talking head.

Evidence that if you have a good narrative and repeatedly tie info to the narrative, you can change minds.

Democrats can have better immigration policies, laws, and narratives.

But they have to turn away from trying to be republicans but slightly less cruel.
