Don't think I'll make it up but dropped huge hints! Hoping for a broadcast/west end transfer.
Trying to get back to what really matters to me - my subject. And so I've written a few thoughts about one of my favourite quotations from one of my favourite plays!

Don't suppose anyone I know on here is at OCR's 11-16 review launch in Westminster this evening. I mean, I'll have a book with me so I'll be fine but it would be fab to know if anyone else is going or if it will be me, Charles Clarke and a bunch of journos?
50 lengths today. Had a little asthma issue earlier today so only 30 lengths alternating breast/backstroke and then on to back stroke for the remaining 20 which I'm much more efficient on.
Our Chemistry dept even join in but...
Yes, generative AI is here and can't be ignored.
No, that doesn't mean I have to "embrace" my students and myself using LLMs to think and write for us.

There's a second copy of my Little Guide for Teachers to using Student Data to give away - I'll also randomly pick someone who reposts either this or the embedded post by 9am next Friday (30/8/24) π

I love DM shoes.
Yup. And then you sit and listen to them moan for two years in form time about how much they hate Chemistry and they get a C when they would probably have got an A.
Or...Favourite bands of my youth:
REM - It's the End of the World
Radiohead - Street Spirit
Garbage - I'm Only Happy
Muse - Muscle Museum
HIM - In Joy and Sorrow
Peggy Lee - Fever
Hole - Celebrity Skin
Hefner - A Hymn For the Cigarettes
RHCP - Otherside
GNR - Sweet Child of Mine
And yes, I am thankful no one had camera phones and there is no footage of me rocking out in evening dress! I fear the Hefner is inappropriate but any other thoughts?
Not a Friday Five but a starting point for how the heck do I decide which songs for my Desert Island Discs at school. The theme for this possible selection is: the set from that time I played my Hall Summer Ball (2001) - lead vocals and rhythm guitar in case you wanted to know:
4. Is one of my favourite tunes ever! Would love to see them live.
We do a Desert Island Discs activity with our 6th Form tutor groups. Tutors go first. 5 songs. I've got to pick 5 songs. That both explain my bizarre eclecticism without scaring the new students AND give excellent cultural capital (my definition). I have too many songs!!!
Yup. He was, as I say, very good. And determined. And I did tell him off when he told me what he'd done!
I was getting Lehrer!
Incidentally I made a CD for my first form in my current school as their leaving present (over 15 years ago) and that had Poisoning Pigeons on it. Had a bunch of 16 year old boys wandering round singing it. And Where's Me Jumper by Sultans of Ping. Delightful!
I love that colour. My house is all beige. When/if we get round to sorting that there will be some rich colours too.
So, results day was good. We'd targeted maintaining Language improvements and improving literature. We managed both. Some stand out individual stories but as ever I'm now deep into doing the quality assurance for the board. The quality of marking loses us A Level students every year.
I had a student write on 1984 (it was a long time ago) even though we hadn't studied it. He was however brilliant and got full marks. Not a tactic I encourage. He had planned to do it and had actually prepared the text. I've had some do it mocks as well.
Thank you. That's an interesting one. In fact I may well add some snippets from the speeches into my promotional PowerPoint!
Today we've made some sensory bottles. The one mixing oil and water is my favourite. It took us a while (and by us I mean the 6 and 8 year old) to follow the instructions about amounts properly otherwise the dark green one would have been ace!
Just over 2 years ago this book wot I wrote was published. It was something close to my heart, drew together aspects of education I'm passionate about (the writer & subject knowledge). Maybe it was a bit self indulgent.
I couldn't then talk about it with people who read it. I'd love to discuss now
The 8 year old has spent his Sunday making a PowerPoint about the dinosaurs of Jurassic World. It's not quite finished but it's not bad at all.
Exactly my thought. Long overdue. No idea why the lay government didn't do it!
Love it!
Yes please
It's tone deaf really isn't it!
Oooh love York! Always look for the Blue Peter competition winning elements I think from after the fire.
Thank you!
