Turns out I know nothing about burning people, but it’s a staple of my fiction.
I quite agree.
I feel we're programmed to expect a 'happy ever after' in a story, and exploring ones that aren't allows writers to delve deeper into the emotions of tragedy, pain and loss.
I rather like it when I get to read characters 'suffering' these emotions (and write them)
