The towers are covered in overgrown greenery, and the window apertures have stains indicating long long repelling of pouring rains and water.

Title: Blooming Desiderium The first piece of a Duotycht. A large gargoyle is crouched on a terrace wall overlooking a landscape of prairie and farm fields. The gargoyle crouches with its head down and its arms wrapped around itself in profile. In one huge claws hand it delicately cups a rose, its petals a color somewhere between pale blue and lilac. A snarl of rose bramble grows up the gargoyles back, producing similar blooms.

Title: Blooming Desiderium The second piece of a Duotycht. High on a ridge a large crumbling house in the early prairie-style grows overgrown and decays. Forlorn bay windows of leaded glass show no light and lonely chimneys stand crooked and without hearth smoke. Below the house a bramble of roses grows, blooming in a pale color between light blue and lilac. In the sky a moon with a wistful ecpfsssjon looks on.

In the grottos of masonry and high up on the chimney stacks of Goblin Hill, the rare Rosa Desiderium blooms the color of deep longing, illuminated only by the moon.

It really is just genuinely horrible. Then those poor kids have to go through the struggle of finding out later who they would rather be, and everything that entails.

The fact of the matter is that despite the diverse tapestry of human existence, most parents are terrified to their marrow that their children won't be "normal", and the scale of "normal" to "weird" encompasses everything from the occasional hyper-fixation to straight-up disabilities.

There is truly nothing like the Gormenghast books, there's so much delicious florid prose that really sells the world of the story!
