Trump is worried that Republicans are going to lose badly in the 2026 midterms.
His solution? Rig the election.
Republicans aren't βentitledβ to 5 more seats in Texas.
Americans ARE entitled to a functioning democratic system that represents them all!
βAs a child, I did not know how special libraries wereβI thought it was just how society workedβI thought there always were and always would be public libraries.β Brewster Kahle Digital librarian, Internet Archive
This #NationalLibraryWeek, we're celebrating the power of libraries to endureβeven in the face of unprecedented challenges.
In our latest Vanishing Culture essay, @brewster.kahle.org shares why preserving the library system matters now more than ever: blog.archive.org/2025/04/07/v...
βThere was a moment when William Alexander Scott III had to put his camera down, the lens no longer focused on the skeletal remains of the concentration camp victims. The stench of death was as unbearable as the sight of bones piled upon bits of flesh.β In Fortify: open.substack.com/pub/nicolefc...

Trans and nonbinary people are essential to the movement for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
They should be free to live authentically β with dignity and respect. Trans and nonbinary communities deserve that and more. ππ³οΈββ§οΈ #TransDayofVisibility #TDOV #ImForPP

Floridaβs leaders may want to score political points by targeting immigrants, but the Constitution doesnβt allow it. Weβll continue fighting until SB 4-C is struck down permanently.

Call or email Congress, write a letter to your local paper, or bring your elected officials into your library! We need everyone to show up #ForOurLibraries. (3/3)
The American Library Association is suing President Trump to stop the illegal dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and weβre joined by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
ALA alleges that plaintiffs have taken illegal actions to systematically destroy IMLS, including canceling millions of dollars in grants to states & libraries and placing career IMLS staff on administrative leave. The Presidentβs executive order and actions put all library services at risk and take away funding from states to support their libraries & communities.
ALA is suing to reinstate IMLS grant funding and staff. We have requested that the court direct the President and Acting Director to reverse their unlawful actions and cease any further attempts to dissolve the agency. Congress created and funded IMLS through law. That funding MUST be used as intended by Congress.
Today we filed suit in federal court to halt and reverse the gutting of the only federal agency dedicated to library funding. We will not allow these illegal actions against Americans and our libraries to go unchallenged.

HI HELLO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY.
Hi.
Books are incredibly important.
Please let them be.
A very kind and reassuring gesture.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:
1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;
2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;
3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

One of the very cool things about this case is that the court called one of the original framers of the MT state constitution to help interpret it because our constitution is only 50 years old and Mae Nan Robinson Ellingson was 24 years old when she helped write it.
Like the rules that said that black women could not use white women's toilets, the latest abuse of human rights in the US Congress is not about safety but about power, the power of a majority to bully a minoritised group. And if decent people will not challenge it, the abuse will stand. And spread.
Reminder that no technology is free from the biases of the humans who created it and work on it.
Such wonderful times we live in that this can be attributed to either flank of the Senate. If leadership positions weren't virtually entirely tied to seniority, it could incentivize being good at your job to head a committee and disincentivize endless term seekers playing the numbers game. #politics
The Constitution is a living document as evidenced by its passage only after the agreement to a Bill of Rights. From its infancy, the Constitution required change. If the 2nd Amendment truly precluded any gun reform, protecting children from murder should be a good enough reason to amend it.
The majority of voters when polled agree with common sense gun reform. It is GOP leaders and extremist judges who further fuel the NRA's baseless reinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment that sustain a society in which school shootings are more commonplace than not.
Imagine being such a sore loser that you keep the loser's playbook after a win. Confident winners do not waste a moment's thought on those that predicted their loss. This is, in addition to threatening the free press, a clear indicator of deep-seated insecurity. #politics @chrislhayes.bsky.social
