In the town of Shiloh, four weathered houses stand tucked among trees and hanging moss, quiet witnesses to a past shaped by labor, hope, and endurance. Built in the 1910s and 1930s to shelter tenant farmers—mostly African American families—they offered a place to live and work the land, sharing in its harvest yet often bound by hardship. The story begins decades earlier, when Emanuel Geiger settled here under the Armed Occupation Act, passing the land to his granddaughter Dora Zetrouer, whose marriage to Daniel Zetrouer expanded the holdings to thousands of acres. These humble homes, draped in moss and memory, hold the echoes of hands that tilled the soil and hearts that persevered, connecting the present to the layered history of Florida’s rural South, where time, toil, and resilience converge beneath the southern sky.
