BULK BARREL BEEF
BULK BARREL BEEF
Come for the corned beef, stay for the animatronic chickens in the deli aisle. (I am not kidding.)
My opponent says he's a Democrat, but his donors tell a different story. Pat Hynes is being funded by:
Major MAGA donors, union busters, landlords who sued their own tenants, and property tax attorneys who helped Trump cut his tax bill.
On March 17, send MAGA Pat packing.
Huge thank you to the volunteers hitting the doors in Proviso Township today!
Weβre sending a strong message that Cook County is NOT for sale! Now letβs win this thing on March 17.
Even if you told them you were on Jeopardy!?
Y'all: Spaces are still available in my @newberrylibrary.bsky.social online seminar for this term! It's a discusson of Chicago poetry, from Sandburg and Brooks to our lucky city's contemporary poetry Renaissance: Coval, Olivarez, Marshall, and Ewing. Check it out: www.newberry.org/calendar/chi...
Gotta diversify your revenue streams.
This album is perfect.
Iβm voting for Toni Preckwinkle because she solves big problems. Being able to wipe away this much medical debt will help lift people out of poverty and inject money into our local economy that would otherwise go to big corporations.

Pat Hynes is not running as a neutral βcompetenceβ candidate. He is being bankrolled, openly and aggressively, by the very real estate interests and property tax appeal attorneys who made fortunes gaming the old system. His donor list reads like a greatest-hits album of MAGA donors, mega-landlords, union-busting restaurateurs, predatory lenders, redlining offenders, and politically connected tax lawyers. More than 100 property tax appeal attorneys have donated to Hynes. Real estate developers, landlords, and appraisers have funneled over $300,000 into his campaign. These are the same actors who successfully slashed Trump Towerβs assessed value by $48 million, shifting the tax burden onto everyday homeowners, who now pay an average of $700 more on their property tax bills to make up the difference. This isnβt theoretical. This is the old system knocking at the door. Hynesβ latest campaign ad doesnβt help his case. It features a woman, Micaela Smith, claiming her property taxes doubled, except she doesnβt own property in Cook County, and her taxes did not double. A search of Cook County deeds shows that no property has ever been held in Smithβs name in Lansing, or anywhere else Cook County. Cook County deed records for her address shows show that Micaela Smith is not the homeowner for the property where she lives. If a campaign is willing to lie this casually, it raises serious questions about what kind of assessor they would be.
And the Girl I Guess Voter Guide had a few words to say about it, too.
That said, Hynes isnβt the solution to the problem. He has the vibe of a disgruntled ex-employee, a former Kaegi worker turned bitter rival. We found some of Hynesβ aggressive rhetoric off-putting. When it came down to it, we did not think he had a clearly articulated plan of demonstrable fairness. And we really do not want to go back to the bad old Berrios days, which would tempt us to move to California.
It was a vibe that the Chicago Tribune picked up on.

And this is all by design.
Itβs the same system @fritzforassessor.bsky.social has been fighting against since 2018.
They wonβt stop trying to take us back to the bad old days.

Three property tax attorneys at Holland Hicks Law β including partners Jeffrey Holland and Harold Hicks β donated a combined $8,500 to Hynes' campaign. You might not recognize the firm's name, and that's by design. It used to be called Madigan & Getzendanner until they rebranded in 2023 after Madigan was indicted. But it's not just Madigan's old firm. Pat Hynes has now taken 131 donations from property tax appeal attorneys totaling $112,100. Add in property tax appraisers and other real estate developers, executives, construction firms, and corporate landlords, and you're looking at more than $350,000 from the real estate industry funding his campaign. Why are all these people investing in Pat Hynes? Because they want a return on that investment. Property tax attorneys make their money winning big tax cuts for commercial property owners. Those cuts don't make taxes disappear. They shift the burden onto you.

Seems bad!
Oh see if you start with official then thereβs all these forms you have to fill out.

On Casimir Pulaski Day, just a quick reminder that before he was a day off for municipal workers, folks on what had been Crawford Avenue fought for almost 20 years in courts and the Illinois legislature to keep the street from being renamed for Pulaski. Anti-Polish prejudice was powerful.
Iβve now had a full nightβs sleep and have determined that I am still correct.
Since pazcki are taken, I vote that kolazcki become the unofficial pastry of Casimir Pulaski Day.
That album is fantastic. I will also stick up for βAll About Chemistry.β

You know I have been talking about this for years.
I always appreciate when people can see the big picture and the arc of our work.
Weβve not been perfect but our team is dedicated to making this office more ethical, transparent, and easier-to-use.

When I think about new technology I think about: Is this helping humanity? Is this hurting vulnerable populations? What does it do for labor/workers rights? Who does it benefit?
Cook County is NOT for sale.
Proud to stand with Rep. Garcia, @delia.bsky.social, local lawmakers, and advocates today to call out the special interests trying to buy the Cook County Assessor's race.
They have? Is there an article about this somewhere? Bummed to hear it.
βThe race for Assessor is about who pays: big corporations and commercial properties, like Trump Tower, or homeowners,β said Kaegi. βPat Hynes has made his choice. He is being bankrolled by property tax attorneys responsible for driving up homeownersβ tax bills.β

The coalition-building Jackson did lives on through so much Chicago organizing. As much as heβs been rightly recognized as a titan this week, the complexities and challenges of his work need more examinations like this.
