Another thing about shaming ppl for what they read... Fabio-style romance books made up 50% of paperback fiction sales for decades. Those sales kept/keep publishers and bookstores alive. Would I like ppl to read revolutionary texts? Yes. Do I want to police that? No.

If we want to get serious about addressing declining literacy rates in the US, we gotta stop shaming people for what and how they read. Speaking as someone who has personally struggled, shame is a sure fire way to kill any enthusiasm and curiosity toward reading, which kills any ambition to learn.
