They could've had the same dynamic to the scene, Britt being disappointed, sad, hurt, etc. that she lost a patient, and Liz showing her more kindness than she deserves, without the water works.
I really hated Britt crying, and this is me an objective viewer, I thought it made her look amateurish. I had the same complaint about Alexis having a crisis of conscience about defending a guilty Willow. Alexis is a seasoned defense attorney, she knows the job is defending guilty people.
