Wednesdays mean peer mentoring! Our programme trains students in Year 10 to support Year 7 students who are a bit worried about being in secondary school. The sessions we run offers an anchor in their school week and familiar faces around the school. inkpots.org/mentoring-in...
Meetings and mentoring today. The meetings will help scope out the plans for the rest of this year - always needing to reflect and review to make sure our programmes continue to be relevant for young people, and not just what adult think will help
Agreed
Remember meeting you on X Rachel. We had an exchange about eyebrows which made me cry with laughter. Lovely to see you here.
This photo shows the Inkpots logo on a darks blue background. The word ‘Inkpots’ is in a sans serif typeface in white with ‘mentoring’ underneath in capital letters against a teal coloured banner which is a curve.
Tuesday is an in-school mentoring day - working with some students in year 9 who benefit from the chance to work through their challenges. Some of them carry a lot of worries on their young shoulders and mentoring offers a framework of support
When a whole day can turn on one email. Luckily, it was a good one 🤣
Photo has a mainly black background and to the right is a person but all we see is their left shoulder and arm, and part of their hand which is just touching the side of their face. They are wearing a dark coloured top.
I work with some young people whose lives are complex. And chaotic. And sad. My job as a mentor is to remain calm and steady. Some times that means allowing space for the anger to come out. Other times, it’s listening as they try to work out why. Some times, it’s silence. #youthmentoring
Have a good Monday. Remember that Blue Monday is an old marketing ploy. Just have the best day you possibly can.
Cleared out half the compost bin. A Sunday afternoon well spent. ☺️
This image shows the numbers 2025 made up of metallic balloons in pastel shades. Also included are ordinary balloons, and some in the shapes of rockets, presents, party hats and sparklers.
Happy new year!
Love this period between Christmas and new year. I always do a big reflection exercise. When I have looked at the year as a whole, it’s no wonder I haven’t felt at my best. There’s been some right stuff to deal with. But now it’s in perspective. And I’m still standing!
That’s happening in the school where I mentor years 9/10 today and tomorrow. It’s been the longest term ever and then this
The image shows the backs of four students in school uniform jackets sat with their backs to camera while sitting on a sofa. One has short brown hair, the second has shoulder length auburn/ginger hair, the third wavy reddish hair and the final one long wavy hair which is red/brown. They are sat facing a wall which has inspirational quotes on it but these are blurred. This is all within a mentoring space which has lots of fairy lights/stars hanging from the ceiling/cushions and throws
Last day in school for this term - and this year. It’s been quite the time - and reflection on it will come next week. But for now, a full day of Year 9 to look forward to! 🎄🎄🎄
Our faculty is offering 8 fully-funded PhD studentships to support Black British researchers across a range of research areas, including Geography. The deadline for applications is 28 February 2025.
Miss Coombes taught me English - and read Great Expectations and Bleak House with such skill. All the characters were given different accents - it was wonderful.
Yay! Great to see you Emma - and great piece
As well as mentoring in schools, I also offer private mentoring for young people, and adults. The spaces are limited but can start in January. More details are on my website but please message me for a free, initial no obligation chat. inkpots.org
This photo shows a shelf with three small cards with affirmation quotes on. The cards are dark blue, teal and green in colour. The writing on two is blurred as they are slightly out of focus but one card says It’s ok to feel however you feel - and there’s a small sketch on this card too showing two hands making a heart shape with the fingers.
Peer mentoring day for me today. This is such a joy to do - working with a group of year 10s who would never have put themselves forward for leadership roles but are now thriving. Plus a catch up with Year 11s who have been peer mentors - retaining those strong links so they continue to grow.
In my experience of working with teenagers, they thrive much more if they feel valued and listened to. Not the other way around
This image is a close up of a Christmas wreath. The majority of the picture shows deep green spruce and there are also two bunches of pine cones and some red velvet ribbon
This week in our schools programme, we’re talking about Christmas prep. Not all my students will find the holiday time easy. Many have such complex family lives, money is very tight and tempers will flare. And they need the safe space of our sessions to be able to talk about all that.
I hope you enjoy Ursula’s world Dapo - I still go back there from time to time
Thank you so much to all the new followers - you are very welcome! I’m a mentor working with teens and based in mid-Sussex. Love to share the voices of young people and link with others working in the sector. inkpots.org
Red cup and saucer - cup is full of hot chocolate which has been topped with cream and chocolate sprinkles. All sat on a wooden table with fairy lights and a coffee shop counter in the background.
One of my favourite things is to meet up with Inkpots alumni - and hear all about their exciting plans! It’s particularly lovely to see someone who hasn’t always been particularly self confident absolutely thriving!
The image shows two speech bubbles which are hand drawn - one is marine blue and the other a deep yellow
Wednesdays for me are #peermentoring days - and brilliant ones too! Peer mentoring training then two drop in sessions for younger students. Plus a support session for year 11s who have been peer mentors and now preparing for exams. Lots of confidence building, reframing challenges - and team work
I work with 12 - 16 year old primarily - many from lower income families but not all. Endless need for consistency and reassurance with many - I often feel my role is to ‘keep the ship steady’.
Day in school today working with students in Year 9. Some of them have been coming to sessions since the start of term and were well into the swing of things - more importantly, trust is being built and they feel very safe in the mentoring space inkpots.org/mentoring-in...
A Wizard of Earthsea for me too.
I work with young people who are going through tricky times. Mentoring can help provide them the time and space they often crave to help sort out confusing thoughts and feelings. More information is on our website: inkpots.org/mentoring-fo...
