No one in my life I can share this with who knows both NGE and current events, so I'll just tell you it's beautiful.
Big text says "Do you feel out of control? Spiraling? Unable to quiet your mind and stop endlessly looking for new novel stimuli to drown it out? Check out Mert! The Tiny Dog who lives in a landfill! Spend some time just really looking at him. Stare at him for 10 minutes" Then there is a drawing of a small, somewhat anthropomorphic dog sitting in a pile of trashbags saying "hello, I'm Mert. I would prefer you didn't look at me. I cannot solve your problems and it is cruel to expect me to." Further text at the bottom says "he might protest but he can't stop you. Give Mert a good long look and feel the peace wash over you. See the world for the first time through Mert's eyes!"
Check Out Mert
I would assume this is a joke if it wasn't the dictionary saying it.

Instead of getting a watch or whatever at 10 years, you should just be allowed to steal one (1) thing from the office.
do you think you could drink a 12-ounce can of soda of your choosing every day for a week for 76 million dollars? the catch is that during that week, youβre not allowed to travel to columbus, georgia unless you already had plans to or you just want to
I can explain this. I donβt think itβs a very big deal. So on election night news outlets need real-time data to power their graphics. Thereβs basically been three providers: the TV networks used to work with Edison Research ($$$) while everyone else used AP ($$)β¦
what do you mean the funny font generator doesn't support exponents
One of the main things that keeps me on Bluesky is the access to inside ball details on the state of science funding. Keeps being bad in novel ways.
The impact is already hitting science agencies hard. The NIHβthe world's largest public biomedical research funderβhas had to rely on leftover stopgap funds.
New grant awards have slowed to a trickle β exacerbating the effects of a record-long shutdown in October.
(h/t @jeremymberg.bsky.social)
I know only time will tell, but do you have a rough sense/guess as to how much of this gap is due to the shutdown versus the change to the apportionment process?
Trying to understand how much of this is a weird blip in the year vs new normal.
Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isnβt flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. π§΅π

Arkansas had some of the nation's strictest Medicaid eligibility rules, and the highest rates of uninsurance among low-income adults.
What changed after their unique 2014 Medicaid expansion? π§΅

Anyone have a good source for how interprovider payment happens in global capitation? For example: if youβre a PCP with Blue Cross HMO global capitation and your patient needs an MRI, how is the reimbursement amount negotiated?
Still one of my favorites as someone who deeply missed (Diet) Mountain Dew while living in China.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how much do you hate it when a scale runs from 1 to 10
Me, I'm at the exact middle point on this scale. 5.5 out of 10
we need a total and complete shutdown of CMMI models until we can figure out what the hell is going on with their acronyms
Iβm always for more data. But, be careful using the new Medicaid spending data released by the Trump administration. Itβs missing a lot of important details and context.

SCOOP: Jay Bhattacharya, NIH director, will also serve as acting CDC director, per two admin officials, until Trump names a permanent director.
POTUS will nominate Jim O'Neill, who left HHS on Friday, to run National Science Foundation.

The pharmaceutical industry needs stability & clear guidance from #FDA as it attempts to bring through licensure new drugs & vaccines. Vinay Prasad, FDA's head of biologics, has brought drama to a setting where it's not welcome, @matthewherper.bsky.social writes. www.statnews.com/2026/02/18/m...
The FDA is increasingly turning to ad hoc expert panels instead of federal advisory committees for external advice. FDA watchers generally agree these expert panels "are likely unlawful," USC Schaeffer's @profgenkanter.bsky.social tells Regulatory Focus.
"Second opinion" to me implies, "Grok can be a substitute for a doctor." It's more ambiguous than I realized as to whether that counts as a medical device. Seems like FDA could go after this stuff if they really wanted, but enforcement is resource constrained.
www.statnews.com/2026/02/03/u...
But the decision's chilling effect extended beyond the vaccine space. Industry officials said Prasad's decision disregarded Moderna's previous agreement with the agency, a sign that the FDA's promises to companies may be easily broken. Companies pour millions of dollars and years of work into clinical trials to help bring products to market. In their view: If they can't take the FDA at their word, why make the investment?
