Very pleased to be part of this great collection, edited by @katieebarclay.bsky.social and @dianagbarnes.bsky.social for @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social, and to have worked with a wonderful young colleague in @ellasbaraini.bsky.social on our chapter. #historyofemotions #suicide #eighteenthcentury
Trying to get back in the habit of posting... so, apropos to nothing, today I'm working on a paper on Madelina Forbes Mitchell - 'The Persian Nightingale' - the granddaughter of #CharlotteSmith who moved to Adelaide in 1838. British #Romanticism meets colonial Australia and local history.
Graphic shows a purple background with shadowy border and dark ink splodges round the edges. Up the left hand side lighter purple illustrated bats fly and in the middle there is white text in a gothic font saying 'Gothic Collection: Get 20% off this Halloween'. Perched on top of the two 'l's in 'Collection' is an illustrated black raven.
This #Halloween, delight in a concoction of spellbinding Gothic titles from MUP and get 20% off our Gothic Collection until 31 December 2025.

Apropos to nothing: so disappointed to belatedly learn that Apple TV+ pulled its funding for Sofia Coppola's adaptation of Edith Wharton's The Custom of the Country. I'll file that one with Todd Haynes' doomed biopic of Peggy Lee as 'abandoned projects I would've loved to see'.
Very excited to receive these books in the mail today - one new, and one I've been eager to read for a while now. Can't wait to dive in. #sarahsiddons #davidgarrick #eighteenthcentury #poetry #drama #celebrity #loneliness

Picked up these lovelies at Adelaide Booksellers.
The Grenadillo Box is, in part, a fictionalisation of Lord Montfort's suicide in 1755. Suicide also features prominently in Sarah Siddons' great career. And a lot of these Victorian love stories end... well, you know.
Stoked to have received my copy of this bad boy... I mean, this sombre tome. I've missed working on poetry, so perhaps this will inspire some new work.
Have just seen all Oscar-nominated shorts at the Capri Theatre. I'd be very happy to see Pachyderme (Fra) win the animated category, and either Knight of Fortune (Den) or Invincible (Can) win for live action. #oscars2024
