OOOohh it's "Mar-ten", like Charles Mar-ten-et. The voice of Mario. Sorry I thought we were doing the Star Wars one. Namaste

Happy #Mar10 Day!
When I was 7 my grandma got a flat of Mountain Dew while they were running a Star Wars Episode 1 promo. One of the cans had Jar Jar on it, my favorite character. Wasn't allowed to drink caffeine but wanted the Jar Jar soda so bad. Drank it in secret & got a migraine so bad I puked
PUT HER BACK !!
Much love to the beetle-type fat distribution. We are shaped like the most noble of God's animals
ANGEL HEART (1987): Laughably unsubtle about its central twist but in a way that comes off more charming than annoying. Bimbo version of JACOB'S LADDER (1990)
Wait you're not supposed to do that? Fuck I thought it was a Heart Scale thing
A very dragonful stream today
Yaaay

Spent years working in the Giant Grub industry. Only as a hobbyist, raising my own smaller grubs, though I hear horror stories from peers tasked with feeding the big one. Lot of layoffs now that it has enough biomass to pupate. I hear its imago form won't have a mouth or an anus. Beautiful wings tho
Each of the game's 4 characters plays the game's 8 stages in a different order and takes slightly different routes through the stage map. Stages will be populated by more & stronger enemies the later they appear in the run, and bosses will have additional HP & moves. Smart way to add variety!
Late 90s was a great time for apocalyptic visions in anime & video games. The AKIRA & NAUSICAA mangas already provided a rich visual vocabulary for Armageddon, with their bugs & cables; then EVANGELION supercharged it. GUNGAGE, ELEMENTAL GEARBOLT and SIN & PUNISHMENT all feel like aesthetic siblings
GUNGAGE (PSX, 1999): Lots of 90s Konami vets on staff, RIP Curry Sage. Often derided for its controls, but I think they're mostly fine -- handles like an old Armored Core -- the stage & encounter design just chafes against their limitations in places. Otherwise inventive, stylish and breezy
In every age, in every place, there will always be a franchise whose primary export is fanart of colorful girls yelling at each other's boobs. Touhou, hololive, horse girls. Someday there will be another
The only instance of this I'm familiar with was Warhammer Fantasy. Every named character in the setting died horribly and the planet was destroyed. Everyone hated it but it was very funny

I had a similar experience with this cool song that played for a few minutes during an extremely homophobic joke in a Mega Man sprite flash cartoon. Wasn't a member of the homophobia fandom as a kid but did like the song. Years later I learn that it was a MIDI arrangement of the Slayers NEXT OP
When we were kids my sister found out about the song Dido - Hunter through a Tenchi Muyo Washu AMV that her weeb friend showed her. She didn't give a shit about Tenchi Muyo but really liked the song, so whenever she wanted to listen to it she'd boot up Quicktime and watch that Washu AMV again
Always thought DeS & DkS's use of bloom was channeling Boorman's EXCALIBUR (1982). Every metal surface gleaming in soft focus, casting fairy-light coronas
I want to pretend I'm immune to propaganda, but even I have to admit how much of what feels wrong/right/substantial/desirable in game design is informed by aesthetics over hard numbers & colliders. Caught someone AFK in a game and had to empty two clips into their stationary head to kill them. Yuck!
Played a bunch of DEADLOCK yesterday. Not for me I think. "Your gun is your WC3 autoattack, and does chip damage; your cooldown abilities are what can carve visible chunks out of the enemy healthbar" hits me like petting a cat the wrong way, even if it's perfectly sensible design for this genre
Hope I'm not "Boss-Babying" here but there are so many uncanny syzygies... not just with Bloodborne, but all of Miyazaki's dark-fantasy games. I'd bet grown-up money that Harrison was one of the English fantasy authors he described trying to read as a teen, picking up half-understood fragments...
A STORM OF WINGS (M. JOHN HARRISON, 1980)
BLOODBORNE (FROM SOFTWARE, dir. HIDETAKA MIYAZAKI, 2015)
When it's just Batman all you got room for are the grim explorations of grief, anger, obsession, et cetera. When Robin is there you've got room for the grim explorations AND curiosity, wonder, play... aka the full spectrum of the human experience
Hey everyone. I have the first Gather Ye Power chapter of 2026 ready for viewing. Once I stop getting distracted by Deadlock and things like that they will be coming faster. Observe: www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/ga...
