I think there's definitely the national pride element in WBC that you don't get in like an All-Star game or something. That might play a role too.

Personally I think it's kind of weird for batters to be trying to give handshakes to the catcher during a game in the first place. Like I know it's an exhibition but you can high five after the game.

Ah yes the Great Blarting of 2009. You can change the store names but the Scars of Blart remains.
Instead of this you can just make your NPC say "Imma go get Blarted." The fans might create a deep love for the strange NPC and create fan theories of what Blarting is. Then someone cosplays Blarting guy and the other game fans (Fellow Blarts) will chuckle at his "follow me to Blarts" sign.
