I had the opportunity to tour Friends in the East Colfax area & see firsthand the incredible work they’re doing for our community. They serve hot meals, operate a food bank & emergency clothing closet, provide mail services, & help people navigate the resources they need to get back on their feet.

I spent time at Dayton & Colfax listening directly to community members about their concerns surrounding ICE and Aurora’s recent resolution.

Our residents want to feel safe, heard, and respected.

The City of Aurora honored a true community leader by naming a road in front of the Aurora Municipal Center β€œDr. Barbara Shannon-Bannister Road.”

Dr. Barbara Shannon-Bannister was a former Aurora City Council Member whose decades of service helped shape the city we know today.

Aurora neighbors β€” your voice matters.

There’s a town hall at Aurora City Council today, and it’s an opportunity to speak directly about the issues impacting our community β€” from housing and public safety to local services and neighborhood needs.

Pizza will be served! πŸŽ‰

For many years, I have been honored to serve my community & work every day to lead with integrity. That commitment does not change - and it is on me now to live up to it, rebuild trust, and keep showing up with humility & accountability.

I am sorry. I will do better, & prove it through my actions.

As local healthcare professional Angelina Romasanta, MS, PA-C explains in her recent op-ed, illegal and counterfeit GLP-1s are being marketed as β€œaffordable alternatives,” but they put patients at serious risk β€” with hospitalizations and deaths already reported nationwide.

Rising prices aren’t abstract β€” they show up at the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the checkout line. When large retailers make pricing decisions, working families feel it first. Local leaders can’t ignore that reality.

What stands out most in this work isn’t the title β€” it’s the people. Spending time with workers, riders, and business owners across Aurora helps ground the work ahead in real experiences. That’s how better decisions get made.

Yesterday, I joined the ribbon cutting for Aurora’s Potomac Pavilion, a next-level mental health + recovery center. From walk-in care, 24-hr crisis services, and stabilization units, this facility is to make help more accessible + immediate for our neighbors and first responders.

Conversations along Colfax about the DDA, time with a community-focused jiu-jitsu gym, and listening to residents at the MLK Library about the Navigation Center.

Showing up and listening is how we move Aurora forward.

Today was about listening and learning β€” welcoming a new restaurant owner, riding RTD along Colfax, and talking with a local business owner about what the DDA could mean for our community. Being present and accessible matters as we work together to shape Aurora’s future.

At our December 15 study session and council meeting, we discussed how tools like the East Colfax DDA can reinvest in safety, infrastructure, and local businessesβ€”while keeping community priorities front and center. These choices shape how Aurora benefits from growth.
