I was a bit shocked by this programme, because I can’t understand how anyone could follow his beat, and it is obvious that the Hallé couldn’t (in the Bruckner). He also has nothing to say about the skill of conducting apart from “you’ve either got it or you haven’t”.

This video is brilliant. Loads of comment from Davis, and Ollie Knussen as a child conductor!

Particularly lovely woodwind playing in the Lark, too. The singing, later in the album, leaves me cold, however.

What is referred to as ‘tactical voting’ is the new normal. We vote against the party we like the least, and scarcely consider which party we like the most. That’s partly because we don’t like any of them anymore, and partly because the question, framed that way, has become redundant.

The publisher of this piece refuses to sell the parts, and will only rent it for over £100 for just one month, and demands to be given the address where it will be played. Disgraceful conduct. Music publishers too often focus on profit and not on art.

Unless I missed it in Hurwitz’s canter, this box seems to lack both Rach symphonies 2&3 and his Shos 6, and Mahler 1. But don’t doubt it’s a treasure trove.

Lots of good points in this power test of a Citroen GSA.
My first car was a Citroen GS 1222cc, and I seem to recall that the book power was 58hp. The GSA was a later model.
It would be good to see whether a GS would do well in this test @upndown.bsky.social

Several hours of delays on a railway line because a lorry collided with a level crossing gate. What does that say about the safety of such a lorry driver on the road in general? I have driven for nearly 50 years and have never hit a gate, barrier, or bridge.

The former purgers of the Tory Party have now purged it of themselves. The Tory Husk which has subsisted since the post-Brexit shedding of the unbelievers is steadily subsiding into a heap of dust. Does this open a path for the former purged to fill the vacuum?

In hacked-off Harry, the press has created its own worst nightmare
The royal is one of the few people with the power, money and motive to pursue Fleet Street cowboys through the courts
Think of Prince Harry's court cases as a substitute for the second part of the Leveson Inquiry, which was dropped by (checks notes) Matt Hancock. His civil cases couldn't match a judge's power, but they have exposed truths which needed exposing. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...

I am generally no fan of ‘positive discrimination’ etc, but I think politics is an allowable exception. Yet another white male leader of Labour is unthinkable. They need a woman or person from the ethnic minorities as the next leader, and that person needs to serve a lengthy stint.

In any case, can it be correct that if a letter contains one possibly random piece of confidential information that protects the rest of it from publication even on a redacted basis? The implications are pretty obvious if so.

Walnut Burl Wood Veneer
Our Vavona Burl Wood Veneer is a yellowy brown colour & is a new & exciting species which will prove very attractive for furniture makers. Finishes very well.
This puzzles me because I have only encountered burr walnut, not “burl walnut”. Doing an internet search brings up this page where both terms are used: www.thewoodveneerhub.co.uk/products/wal... So, perhaps they are interchangeable.
