Latest from Morston Pond as we see the results of last season's Crassula clearing. The water is clearer than ever and already frogs, toads & newts have been sighted www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHay... @carlsayer.bsky.social @uclgeography.bsky.social @nnorfolkgreenparty.bsky.social
If we'd never dream of letting the Palace of Westminster crumble, why are we risking the collapse of our own unique natural habitats?
Norfolk holds 10% of the world's rare chalk streams - living, breathing treasures found almost nowhere else on Earth π
Protecting them isn't optional.

#Morston #pond today - refilled by the recent rain & roughly 5/6th clear of visible #Crassula, the invasive species we've spent 3 years trying to eradicate. The middle pic shows the frustrating region which is so difficult to get to. Otherwise a hugely successful year for our community volunteers!
#Autumnal scene at #Morston #pond today - loving the colours & tranquility - the water level is also being restored after the long, dry summer #nature #mothernature #wildlife #conservation #biodiversity #volunteers #community #Norfolk #northnorfolk @carlsayer.bsky.social @uclgeography.bsky.social
Looking fantastic - amazing work from the teamπ

At yesterday's SWAMP session the team planted a Spindle tree - an excellent source of food for birds in Winter, moths & pollinators when the leaves are out! @carlsayer.bsky.social @ajaytegala.bsky.social @uclgeography.bsky.social @bramblebotanist.bsky.social @patrickbarkham.bsky.social
Thank you! I'll pass that on to the rest of the team!
Thank you, Chris - support and kind words are always welcome - particularly after a cold and muddy day knee deep in Crassula!!
We think it's just the natural water table, despite the dry Summer. Definitely easier when dry but the remaining Crassula in the water is proving a headache!!
Thanks Alex. That's a great idea. The Parrot's Feather seems to have abated but there's still some Crassula left - I doubt we'll ever be rid of it completely but as long as it's manageable then I think we will have succeeded.
Thank you! Persistence is key!
