"How if you wake up in the night and knowβ€”and know the willow tree's not there? Can you live without the willow tree? Well, no, you can't. The willow tree is you." β€” John Steinbeck On the 9th February 2026 the S.W.A.M.P. team set about two tasks - pollarding the willow around Morston Pond and using the wood to manufacture a natural bench, for the comfort of ourselves and visitor...

If we'd never dream of letting the Palace of Westminster crumble, why are we risking the collapse of our own unique natural habitats?

Norfolk holds 10% of the world's rare chalk streams - living, breathing treasures found almost nowhere else on Earth 🌏

Protecting them isn't optional.

#Morston #pond today - refilled by the recent rain & roughly 5/6th clear of visible #Crassula, the invasive species we've spent 3 years trying to eradicate. The middle pic shows the frustrating region which is so difficult to get to. Otherwise a hugely successful year for our community volunteers!

"The falling leaves drift by the window - the autumn leaves of red and gold" (Nat King Cole) Dodging the wintery showers and blustery winds, our go-ahead SWAMP team wrapped up warm, donned their gloves and wellingtons and hauled green bags filled with dried Crassula to the edge of Morston pon...

Thank you, Chris - support and kind words are always welcome - particularly after a cold and muddy day knee deep in Crassula!!

We think it's just the natural water table, despite the dry Summer. Definitely easier when dry but the remaining Crassula in the water is proving a headache!!

Thanks Alex. That's a great idea. The Parrot's Feather seems to have abated but there's still some Crassula left - I doubt we'll ever be rid of it completely but as long as it's manageable then I think we will have succeeded.
