It wears you down. Failures are ridiculed and successes seem to go unnoticed. I once had a team boss threaten to chop my nuts off if my proposed solution, which was unpopular, did not work. He yelled this across the office so everyone heard. Anyhow, it did work, and nothing was said. Demotivating.

I recently retired from working as an IT professional. After leaving university, about 40% of the IT grads were female. Over the years, the women just moved away. Leaving IT a blokes-only pissing contest. Glad to be well out of it.
