Smoking reduces renal function by reducing blood flow to the kidneys, but it also increases the risk of developing chronic kidney disease and kidney cancer. Quitting smoking is vital for good kidney health 🚭

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency(AATD), a rare & underdiagnosed genetic condition, places those affected at risk of developing lung disease if they smoke. We support the continued efforts to integrate rare disease services into the Irish healthcare system.

100 deaths every week from tobacco products - report Dr Paul Kavanagh, Chair of the RCPI Clinical Advisory Group on Smoking and E-Cigarettes, outlines the findings of a new report on reducing the harm of tobacco products.

Dr Paul Kavanagh featured on RTE Radio 1 to discuss a tobacco free future. He highlighted that smoking rates in Ireland are still a concern and it is healthcare professionals who are “picking up the pieces everyday” as a result of tobacco-related harm 🚭
