NOAA helped notify whom they could (the Indian Ocean did not have a system set up) during the Boxing Day 2004 Tsunami. Had the countries along the Indian Ocean had a system, they could’ve been notified in advance of the waves & fewer than 250k people would’ve been lost.

I thought about that last night. They muzzled the women by one day just mass firing them and making them irrelevant.

Kind of like the federal government employees right now 💔

The Handmaid’s Tale was taken from real events. So it can easily be a playbook.

Sadly, I’m not sure we have much of a choice. It’s on private land with a no trespassing sign up. I’m not a fan of anything you described but I’m hoping to record the names there so we know who was buried on the hill. My partner’s g-ma is 102 & wants to see it one more time, and it needs attention.

This one was so hard, I repressed it. It’s not in my list and yet I remember it like I read about those kids yesterday. 💔

(And I’m dreading this summer’s trip to TN to find the family cemetery that we are already aware is overgrown. We’re bringing lawn stuff AND shovels to help pull upright some stones… We recently located it on private property, so we are lucky…)

And in a similar vein, Jill Morelli has been working on Orphan Train riders for a while, too.

Today is a double day. Before We Were Yours was read around the same time as Before & After. Similarly moving stories, both stayed with me and I occasionally confuse the two.

This book is actually about a (distant) family member of mine. My paternal grandfather’s maternal uncle is mentioned as the future husband. The acknowledgment includes a cousin of mine. This was how I had a breakthrough in my paternal research, the siblings of my great grandmother are named! 🥰

I think I’m going to love this game!

This one I read because someone on IG read it the previous month (it was part of their “I read these…” post and I put it on hold at my library), I read it on the same dates in history, completely by accident, so many years later. It was surreal. The stories stayed with me.
