In response to a ruling from a federal judge in Rhode Island, the Institute of Museum and Library Services reinstated all previously canceled grants in every state and territory. It's a huge win for libraries and our communities.
"The reinstatement of all IMLS grants means that libraries across the country will be able to resume vital services for learning, imagination, and economic opportunity. We are breathing a sigh of relief, but the fight is not over." ALA President Sam Helmick. Show up for our libraries, American Library Association.

The bill to reopen the gov will enable the crucial work of the Library of Congress to continue, but we still need to secure funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services as well as the National Archives.

We do the Great Maine Book tournament, a trivia contest about a selection of state award books. It makes these fly off the shelves all year! I was a skeptic until joining this district.
And @mstewartscience.bsky.social , my asst supt is buying a copy of your 5 Kinds of Nonfiction book for each T who is participating!
A green bulletin board with a sixteen-book tournament plan. Pictures of nonfiction book covers are in the first round on each side of the bracket.
My first post! The unfinished bracket (needs the title) for our first Nonfiction Tournament of Books detailed in @mstewartscience.bsky.social 's book. A T came up and raved about how excited her 3rd graders are after reading the first book, and how amazed she is that they were so into nonfiction! ππ«Ά

Wonderful! π Did I mention I love infographics? This one does such a nice job describing ways SLs and Ts can collaborate. My district is near you so if I can be of any assistance, I'm happy to. bctla.ca/2019/02/17/w...
I just reminisced about this very picture with a parent at the book fair last night!
Infographic depicting research about school librarians increasing student achievement even after controlling for poverty levels. Research conducted by library research service.
I'm new to my position and have been sharing this with my principals, but teacher prep programs highlighting how we support Ts and learning would go a long way. www.lrs.org/documents/sc...
Our job descs. require and achievement research supports collabs w/Ts, yet SLs are stuck in fixed scheds to cover Ts planning time in the specials rotation. Ts lack time and encouragement to collaborate with SLs. We have a big impact on SEL and DEI&B too, esp when adequately staffed and funded.
