He keeps his shoulder steady beneath Soren's weight, not wanting to accidentally jostle.

"Anniversaries are just as cumbersome. Most of us have one we’d prefer not to revisit.”

The pieces settle somewhere in the back of his mind, slow and reluctant.

"I remember the squadron, their unit."

His voice is quieter now.

“They were deployed to the eastern watch posts. Bentbranch sent them as reinforcements.”

A brief silence follows.

"...What a timeless photo."

He doesn’t move, though his posture shifts slightly to keep Soren from sliding.

"Provided you don't snore."

The elezen quietly notes the stiffness along Soren's side. A thought comes to mind.

"You were sleeping fairly deeply just now. What woke you?"

Casra goes still the moment the weight settles against his shoulder.

"Asleep, are you. You chose a terrible pillow."

For a moment he says nothing, eyes narrowing slightly as he studies the slow rise and fall of Soren's breathing.

"But I suppose I've seen worse coping strategies."

Casra’s gaze drops briefly to the photograph. The colours of the Order are unmistakable.

If he looked long enough, he might even recall the texture of the cloth.

“…You don’t have to force it out.”

He nods slightly toward the photo

“Start there, if it's easier."

“If people waited for divine intervention, half the Twelveswood would be a graveyard. I'm not about to leave lives to the whim of wind spirits."

He gives a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders.

"And if I must choose, I prefer remedies that arrive on time."

Casra had only meant to pass through, but the sound of uneven breathing makes him stop in his tracks.

He studies Kene’zi for a moment, taking in the trembling shoulders, the effort to keep it contained.

“…Easy.”

His voice isn’t loud, but it’s steady.

"No one's keeping score here.

Breathe."

// You know what, fire away. Kene'zi will answer them.

Casra shrugs nonchalantly, as though it were nothing more than common courtesy. He watches as water is wrung out of her tail.

When he finally speaks again, he keeps his voice carefully neutral, though the slightest hint of puzzlement colours his tone.

"...Why did you approach, anyway?"

With quiet efficiency, he reaches up and takes the handle from her hand, angling it properly over the both of them.

The adjustment is small, but suddenly neither of them is standing half in the rain.

“…You were holding it wrong.”

Casra glances up, not at the umbrella, but at the one who holds it.

His brows knit slightly, as though trying to comprehend the logic of the gesture.

“You’ll get soaked on that side.”
