I just don’t think that there is much evidence of excessive empathy, or of any reticence to prosecute the homeless for “antisocial activity.”

There are about 3x as many people with major psych disorders in US prisons as there are inpatient psych beds. Homeless people are more than 10x as likely to have been incarcerated than the general pop., and most of those who have been both homeless and incarcerated were homeless first.
That feels like a bit of a long walk to me, but could be true. certainly there are many examples of misguided actions in the name of equity, but it’s the “leftists permit antisocial behavior” narrative that particularly rubs me the wrong way.
would you say that the major limiting factor in the availability of inpatient mental health care is anarchists who think it’s ok to smoke on the bus?
“A leftist on the internet refused to condemn pooping on the train!” Ok. I don’t care about that.
I am trying to be generous here but my counter-question would be: what positive policy interventions do you think would result from everyone suddenly becoming *less empathetic* towards homeless people with mental health disorders?
at the least that gets you into some tougher questions about how you define “make you do” yeah
the question of whether you “excuse” or “condemn” addicts behavior seems pretty irrelevant from a clinical perspective. so I wonder what better clinical outcomes come from foregrounding an addict’s ”irrationality”
I don’t know the specific context or who this guy is, but this seems like a somewhat reasonable framework for an addiction doctor? try to understand why people make the decisions they do and meet them where they’re at?
yeah, but I guess I think the opposite view does kind of impact the real world, which is why I’m prickly about It. As in, a lot of people, some In positions of power, do believe that social problems like homelessness exist solely because leftists/liberals “permit” it (i know you don’t think this)
like kudos for sam for talking about right to shelter vs “lock them up in the loony bin” but the framing of homelessness as somehow being something we “let” happen, particularly via leftist permissiveness… I have feelings about.
ehh I don’t know—maybe this is annoying in an online way but also has nothing to do with the actual problem irl? as in, I don’t think what a small cadre of leftists think about smoking on the bus has any bearing on whether people smoke on the bus or not
50 50
can I sit on them
breathtaking ratio on this one
lmao
It’s an inherently dishonest framing— making up a guy to get mad at to mask the vapidity of “aherm, maybe we just stop the bad guys from doing bad stuff? I am very smart.”
I think one of the most pernicious ideas in American life is that problems are caused by a class of innate criminals who could be swiftly and easily disposed of if not for the objections of the soft-hearted and/or actively seditious left.
I’m aware that this is a long walk, but one of the reasons this shit makes me crazy is that “the reason there’s trash on the train because the woke anarchist left likes crime” is somewhat reminiscent of certain aspects of contemporary immigration and foreign policy.
If anything, given Rhode Island’s track record in attracting interest from major developers… the vegan cheese should probably be flowing in the opposite direction.
Still a very funny story. A pair of mooks clearly thought they hit the grifting big time, then get fired for trying to extort bewildered real estate developers for samples of vegan cheese.
I mean it’s muddied somewhat by bam genuinely being in a relationship with a generational athlete lol

It’s a little unclear to me if the muscle loss thing is specific to glp1s/semaglutide or if its just almost impossible to lose a ton of weight without losing a lot of muscle in general
